Job description

What is it about?

When a fire department in Switzerland is alerted, there's a high probability that the message will be transmitted through our systems. Around 400 fire departments in 16 cantons work with our solutions, from alerting to operational management to operational planning.

This means: Our software must function, even at 3 AM. This responsibility shapes how we develop.

We are looking for you as a Software Engineer to help carry our platform. Not as another person in the team, but as a supportive pillar in our team.

About us

EvoSys AG was founded in 2011 and has been developing its own software for authorities and organizations for rescue and security (BORS) since 2016. We are an owner-managed family business in Thun with 9 employees and are a leader in our market.

Our products are called AlarmHub, Intervento, FloriPlan, AlarmDisplay, and SpotPilot. They cover the entire process, from alerting to post-incident evaluation. In 2028, Respondo will be added as another solution.

Your tasks

  • You will further develop our existing platforms and implement new features from idea to operation.

  • You will shape our architecture. Our customer base is growing rapidly, and our systems must grow with it. Specifically, we are preparing to move to Kubernetes and are refactoring services to scale reliably.

  • You will work on interfaces to dispatch centers, partner systems, and authority platforms.

  • You will use AI-powered tools in your daily development work, just like all of us.

  • You will participate in code reviews and contribute to quality and documentation.

  • You will assist with demanding technical questions from operations.

Perspective

Over time, you can take on technical responsibility for a product area. And if it's a good fit for both sides, a technical leadership role is also conceivable in the long term. We fill such roles from within the team. However, this is explicitly not a prerequisite for this position.

Your tasks

  • Around 2 years of professional experience in web application development. You have completed your initial years and work independently, without close supervision.

  • Experience with Node.js and Vue.js, plus exposure to PostgreSQL, Docker, Linux, and Git.

  • You use AI tools as a matter of course and can assess when to trust their results and when not.

  • An understanding of what happens in the production system when your code reaches it.

  • A desire to take responsibility for a topic, rather than just working through tickets.

  • Very good German, both written and spoken, good understanding of English.

  • Interest in the emergency services environment. Personal experience in a fire department or civil defense is a plus, but not a requirement.

Our technology stack

  • Node.js, TypeScript, Vue.js

  • PostgreSQL and Redis

  • Docker - on the way to Kubernetes

  • Linux, Git, CI/CD pipelines

  • REST APIs and interfaces to third-party systems

  • AI-powered development tools

What awaits you at our company

  • Short paths. One location, direct line to management. Decisions are made on the same day, not in the next committee.

  • Visible impact. What you build is in use by fire departments within weeks. You receive feedback from people who work with it.

  • Continuing education that we take seriously. We support part-time degree programs.

  • 5 weeks of vacation, pro-rata for part-time.

  • Flexible working hours and a modernly equipped workplace.

  • Co-creation. We make technology decisions together, not from top-down.

  • Thun. Working between lake and mountains, 10 minutes from the train station, 20 minutes from Bern.

A note of honesty

We work predominantly on-site. Occasional home office days are possible, but purely remote work does not suit us. The short coordination paths in development are part of our DNA.

Compensation

The salary for this position is CHF 68,000-80,000 per year for a 100% workload.

How the application process works

  1. Apply via the platform. A CV is sufficient, we do not need a cover letter. We are happy to look at links to projects or repositories.

  2. A brief get-to-know-you, around 30 minutes via video call or phone.

  3. Interview in Thun with the CTO and the development team, including a look at our codebase.

  4. Technical exchange based on a small, realistic task. No whiteboard riddles, but something from our daily work.

  5. Decision within 7 days of the last conversation at the latest.

We will respond to every application, even if it's a rejection.
