The Black Drop Biodrucker GmbH is a 3D bioprinting company located in Darmstadt, Germany. 3D bioprinting is a key technology for the cultivation of tissue-like structures based on the concept of additive manufacturing. After a virtual model, matrix materials loaded with living cells are printed layer by layer to form a living construct. Along the bioprinting value chain, Black Drop develops, produces, and markets 3D bioprinting systems, bioinks, and bio-printed tissue models for preclinical research. Bio-printed tissue models can be used both in regenerative medicine and in drug screening.

Tasks

As a Software Developer:in, you will work on the development of interconnected 3D bioprinting systems. Your focus lies on expanding existing software architectures to make our systems remote controllable and networked.

You develop robust, maintainable software solutions that integrate our bioprinters reliably into modern IoT and backend environments. You work closely with colleagues from software, hardware, research, and application development together and accompany developments from the idea to productive use. The position is initially fixed-term for 6 months. Upon positive development of financing opportunities, there is an option for a contract extension.

Your Tasks:

Software Development & System Extension

• Further development and maintenance of existing software for controlling and monitoring our 3D bioprinting systems
• Implementation of new functions with a focus on remote control, stability, and expandability
• Participation in system architecture and clear interfaces between software modules

Connectivity & Networking

• Bonding to backend services, cloud or IoT platforms
• Consideration of topics such as security, reliability, and remote maintenance

Synchronization of Software & Hardware

• Collaboration with hardware development for controlling controllers, sensors, and actuators
• Understanding of hardware-related requirements

Teamwork & Documentation

• Tight collaboration in interdisciplinary teams
• Clean documentation of software, interfaces, and concepts

Qualification

Your Profile:

Educational Background & Background

• Completed studies or comparable training in the field of Informatik, Software Engineering, Mechatronik, Elektrotechnik or a related field
• Graduates are welcome – what matters is interest, basic knowledge, and motivation

Fundamental Knowledge

• Solid programming skills, ideally in Java (or comparable object-oriented languages), JavaScript, C++/C advantageous
• Understanding of software architectures, interfaces, and system relationships
• Pasión for technical products with reference to 3D printing, medical technology or biotechnology
• Techical understanding of hard- and software interaction

Desirable Knowledge (not a must)

• First-hand experience with network technologies (e.g. HTTP, LAN, OPC-UA)
• Experience or interest in firmware development and hardware-related software
• Experience or interest in GUI development, visualization or system management
• Understanding of IT and system security in networked devices
• Knowledge in the field of electronics, circuits or embedded hardware
