Site Reliability Engineer

An established fintech company is seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) based in Johannesburg, Gauteng to take ownership of the uptime, performance, and scalability of its production and development environments. You’ll work across infrastructure powering ERP systems, APIs, internal tools, websites, and databases—ensuring high availability and system resilience for thousands of users and a fast-growing organisation.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes
• Develop scalable data infrastructure to support analytics and reporting
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams to understand data needs
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability across multiple systems
• Implement data governance practices including documentation and security controls
• Optimise data workflows for performance and cost-efficiency in cloud environments
• Integrate diverse data sources (APIs, databases, third-party systems) into unified platforms
• Enable real-time and batch data processing capabilities
• Monitor and troubleshoot data systems to ensure reliability and uptime

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering, data infrastructure, or related role
• Strong experience with SQL, Python, and data transformation tools
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure)
• Familiarity with modern data tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Spark, Kafka)
• Knowledge of APIs, RESTful services, and integrating external data sources
• Experience working with big data and scalable storage solutions
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
