Shift Supervisor | DSL-01

For DSL-01 in Delfzijl, we are looking for an experienced Shift Supervisor who will help build the operation from the preparation phase. Someone who contributes to thinking about procedures, preparation for commissioning and startup, and helps get operators ready for the moment the plant actually starts running. DSL-01 will be a large-scale production facility for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and by-products.

About the role

As Shift Supervisor, you will play a key role in the safe, stable, and efficient operation of DSL-01. In this role, you will have a unique combination of project work and operational responsibility. During the current project phase, you will actively contribute to the preparation of plant operations, commissioning, and startup in day shifts. Once DSL-01 is operational, planned from spring 2028, you will lead a team of operators (in shifts) and be responsible for the daily management of a complex chemical production facility.

You will ensure that production, quality, safety, and environmental objectives are met and take the lead when deviations, malfunctions, or emergencies occur. You will work closely with colleagues from Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and HSES.

What makes this role special is that you are not joining an existing organization, but helping to build the operation, production, and way of working from the beginning.

Your responsibilities

During the project and startup phase (~1.5 years):

• You will work in day shifts

• You will contribute to the commissioning and startup of DSL-01

• You will develop procedures and work instructions

• You will play an important role in executing training programs and training operators

• You will support the build-up of the operational organization

• You will ensure successful preparation for the plant startup.

In the operational phase (from mid-2028 onwards):

• You will lead a team of approximately 8 operators in a 5-shift rotation within a full continuous production process.

• You will monitor the safe and efficient production of SAF, propane, butane, and naphtha.

• You will monitor process performance via DCS and MES systems, intervene where necessary, and ensure that production, quality, and yield targets are achieved.

In addition, you will be responsible for compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards, take the lead in incidents and emergencies, and coordinate work between Operations, Maintenance, and other involved disciplines. You will also play an active role in the continuous improvement of processes and further strengthening the safety culture within the plant.

An important part of your role is developing the operational team. You will be responsible for the growth of operators, both technically and in competencies such as collaboration, ownership, and safety awareness. Through coaching, guidance, and clear expectations, you will ensure a strong team that can operate safely, effectively, and with confidence.

You recognize yourself in the following:

• Experience and affinity with Process Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a similar field

• At least a completed VAPRO C or AOT level 4 education

• At least 10 years of experience in the chemical, petrochemical, refining, or similar process industry

• Demonstrable operational leadership experience and proven people development skills

• Experience with process automation and working with DCS and MES systems

• Knowledge of process safety, work permit systems, and relevant legislation and regulations

• Experience in making operational decisions in situations where safety, quality, and continuity converge

Welcome extra knowledge and experience:

• Experience in greenfield projects or large-scale industrial construction and startup projects

• Experience with commissioning, startup, and operational readiness

• Knowledge of refining, hydroprocessing, or sustainable fuel processes

• Experience with continuous improvement programs and performance management

About DSL-01

In Delfzijl, we are building DSL-01, a SkyNRG plant for renewable fuels. Here we produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from waste streams such as used fats and oils, using HEFA technology. We also produce by-products such as butane, propane, and naphtha.

DSL-01 will be the first plant in Europe fully focused on SAF and associated sustainable by-products. Once operational, we will produce 100,000 tons of SAF and 35,000 tons of by-products annually. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% compared to fossil kerosene, measured across the entire chain.

Construction started in 2026, and the first production is planned for 2028. The project includes the plant itself, associated pipelines, and temporary work sites. You will directly contribute to the realization of a new industrial plant and the sustainability of aviation.

We work according to international standards and Dutch legislation and regulations to carefully manage the impact on people, nature, and the environment. Safety, sustainability, and collaboration are central to this.

Why this role?

This position offers an opportunity that few operators and shift supervisors get. You will be involved from an early stage in the realization of a completely new plant and can use your operational expertise to influence commissioning, procedures, training, and the final way of working.

After startup, you will transition to an operational environment where you will lead a modern production facility and play an important role in establishing the plant's standards, culture, and performance.

At the same time, you will directly contribute to the realization of one of Europe's first large-scale SAF plants. A unique opportunity to help build a new production organization and make a tangible contribution to the sustainability of aviation.

NB: For the build-up of the operational organization, we are ultimately looking for five Shift Supervisors. The first two Supervisors will start during the project and startup phase of DSL-01. The remaining three positions are expected to be filled in the spring, so that the full team is ready for the operational phase. ‌
