This is a well-established, NZ-owned engineering consultancy with around 50 staff nationally and a tight-knit local team of 13–14. About the role
This is a senior appointment and a true 2IC position within the water team. You’ll work closely with the current water lead, effectively helping run the ship day to day while remaining hands-on technically.
The role suits someone who wants to keep designing, leading a small team, engaging with clients, and gradually stepping into broader responsibility. There’s strong support to learn the commercial and BD side, and a clear pathway to eventually taking over the water leadership role.
Projects are primarily healthy waters, with a strong push to expand further into Watercare work.

- Salary typically ranging from $140k–$160k, depending on experience

- Act as 2IC to the water team lead
- Mentor and guide junior engineers
- Maintain strong client relationships
- Support business development activities (training provided)
- 8–10+ years’ experience in water engineering
- CPEng or very close, able to provide sign-offs
- Strong NZ experience and understanding of local standards
- Confident communicator with leadership capability
- Experience in Civil 3D or 12D (one essential, both ideal)
