Job description
Improving people's living conditions - that is our common mission at Eppendorf. With our high-quality and precise life science premium products - from pipette tips, dispensers, centrifuges, and bioreactors to ultra-low temperature freezers - we support scientists worldwide in conducting research faster, more precisely, and more efficiently in the laboratory.
I listen to understand.
I lead the way, even when the path isn't clear.
I stand by what I say.
I make progress visible and share what I learn.
If you recognize yourself here, then you belong with us. Here you will work with people who combine different perspectives and make new things possible. You contribute your ideas, ask questions, provide impetus - and find an environment that strengthens and allows you to grow. Because we believe in people who want to shape things. People like you.
Responsibilities
In the Value & Cost Engineering department, as part of R&D, you will contribute to the sustainable improvement of the economic efficiency of our laboratory equipment and associated products.
- You will reduce the manufacturing costs of laboratory equipment, associated accessories, and consumables by consistently applying and further developing methods of Value & Cost Engineering.
- You will participate in the selection of the appropriate product feature scope, create benchmark analyses of our own products and those of competitors, and furthermore determine "bottom-up" cost targets for development and series production.
- Your tasks include manufacturing cost simulation based on technical concepts, taking into account manufacturing technology, production location, production volumes, and procurement markets, among other factors. For this, you will maintain in-depth expertise for at least one material group within the Cost Engineering group.
- By identifying savings potentials, selecting suitable manufacturing processes, and optimizing the design, you will collaboratively shape cost-conscious products with the product developers.
- To this end, you will moderate Design-to-Cost workshops in interdisciplinary product development teams to jointly develop viable solutions.
- As an active voice for Value & Cost Engineering, you will support the cultural embedding of this approach in the cross-functional development teams.
- You will prepare make-or-buy decisions, support procurement with structured cost breakdowns for price negotiations, and formulate requirements for supplier selection.
Profile
- You have successfully completed a degree in (Business) Engineering or a comparable field.
- You have at least three years of relevant professional experience as a Cost Engineer or in a comparable role and confidently utilize this expertise in your daily work.
- You already possess practical expertise in design, manufacturing, and cost calculation for parts of at least one material group - for example, CNC parts, sheet metal parts, molded plastic & metal parts, or PCBs & cable harnesses - and apply this knowledge purposefully.
- Routine use of CAD, PLM, PCM, and ERP software systems is part of your daily routine.
- As a team player with strong interpersonal skills, you build stable working relationships, including in international teams, and work constructively towards common solutions.
- You enjoy sharing your knowledge, actively contribute, and thus support the establishment and further development of a Cost Engineering group within the global Eppendorf R&D organization.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in German and English, as well as a willingness to travel up to 25%, complete your profile and enable you to exchange with various stakeholders.
We Offer
- Meaning and Impact. At Eppendorf, you work on solutions that improve people's living conditions worldwide and make an important contribution to the future viability of our products through your Value & Cost Engineering.
- We see what you achieve. A fair, attractive salary as well as additional benefits like holiday and Christmas bonuses show that your contribution is seen and valued.
- Flexible and Connected. Hybrid work models and modern collaboration tools support you in working flexibly while remaining closely connected to your team.
- Real Balance That Truly Fits. 30 days of vacation and flexible working hours give you the freedom to balance your professional and private life.
- Arriving Made Easy. With offers like a subsidy for the Deutschlandticket, JobRad (company bike leasing), parking facilities, and e-charging stations, we make your commute easier and support sustainable mobility.
- A Future You Can Build On. Employer-funded pension plans and capital-forming benefits provide you with financial security - today and in the long term.
- There for you when it matters. Support services, such as childcare solutions or an anonymous advisory service, are available to assist you in challenging situations.
