Senior Train Control Engineer (RFP)

Job Description Summary
A Senior Train Control Engineer with 10+ years of experience is responsible for leading the design, development, configuration, and validation of advanced train control systems for mainline and/or metro rail projects. The role involves technical leadership, system integration oversight, and ensuring compliance with global safety and signaling standards. The engineer will serve as a key technical expert, supporting project delivery, customer discussions, safety assessments, and mentoring junior engineers.
Required Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Railway Engineering.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in train control systems (CBTC, ETCS, ATP, ATO, ATS, or OEM-specific systems).
- Strong expertise in control logic design, braking system integration, propulsion interfaces, and onboard signaling interactions.
- Proficiency with requirement management tools (DOORS/Polarion), simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink), and diagnostic/test bench tools.
- In-depth knowledge of RAMS processes and railway safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Background

- Previous experience with global OEMs (Alstom, Siemens, Hitachi, Stadler, Bombardier, Wabtec).
- Exposure to full V-cycle development and multiple railway project deployments.
- Experience in system troubleshooting, field commissioning, and safety validation.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Architecture
-
- Lead end-to-end system design for train control systems (CBTC/ETCS/ATP/ATO/ATS).
- Define system architecture, functional design specifications, control logic, braking curves, and performance parameters.
- Review and approve subsystem designs, ensuring alignment with signaling, TCMS, propulsion, brake systems, and train networks (MVB/CAN/Ethernet).
Technical Leadership

- Provide guidance to engineering teams across design, V&V, and commissioning phases.
- Act as technical SME during design reviews, customer meetings, audits, and safety assessments.
- Mentor junior engineers and ensure adherence to engineering processes and standards.
Integration, Testing & Validation
-
- Lead lab testing, simulation, test bench integration, onboard integration, and field testing.
- Drive static and dynamic train-level tests, acceptance tests, and commissioning activities.
- Oversee resolution of technical issues and ensure traceability to requirements.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
-
- Ensure all designs comply with EN50126/128/129 and applicable SIL requirements.
- Participate in hazard analysis, FMEAs, safety cases, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with Independent Safety Assessors (ISA) for safety validation.
Customer & Stakeholder Management

- Interface with signaling teams, vehicle engineering, OEM partners, and suppliers.
- Participate in customer discussions for requirement clarification, design approvals, and technical workshops.
- Support bids, estimations, and technical proposals when required.
Documentation & Reporting

- Prepare and approve technical specifications, system architecture documents, test plans, validation reports, and design justification documents.
- Ensure timely delivery of engineering documentation aligned with project schedules.
