Senior Tax Consultant

Full Time 80000.00 - 100000.00

Job description

About the Firm:
This boutique firm based on Auckland’s City Fringe has carved out a niche in tax consulting for SMEs and property investors. Their clients range from developers and landlords to business owners and high-net-worth families - many with complex needs and big decisions to make.

You’ll join a small, specialised tax team focused purely on consulting work. With one team member heading off to the Big Four, this is a rare chance to take on a hands-on role where you’ll work side-by-side with the Tax Partner, contributing real advice that makes a difference.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Forget compliance—this role is all about helping clients make smart tax decisions. Here’s how it works:
  • Clients sit down with the Partner to outline their situation and goals
  • You take that info and provide tailored tax advice in the form of written opinions
  • Most work involves property structuring, GST treatment, and SME planning
  • You’ll interpret the relevant tax rules, consider what structures are best, and explain your thinking clearly
  • As you settle in, you’ll also support juniors and build your confidence in client-facing meetings
What You’ll Bring:
  • 4+ years of NZ Tax experience—ideally from Big Four or perhaps you’ve moved to a law firm and want to come back to tax consulting
  • Proven experience delivering tax consulting and advisory work (not just compliance)
  • Strong working knowledge of NZ tax legislation and how to apply it
  • Excellent written and verbal communication—you can draft clear advice and confidently discuss it with clients
  • A curious, analytical mindset with confidence to explore complex scenarios
Why This Opportunity?
  • Innovative, forward-thinking firm with no timesheets (yes, really!)
  • Direct mentoring and idea-sharing with a sharp, experienced Tax Partner
  • Consulting-heavy role—which is the dream if you love tax and real client impact
  • High staff retention, reflecting a supportive and enjoyable work culture
  • Regular client exposure and real input into strategy
Why work with Tyler Wren?
  • 15+ years of experience in the Professional Services sector
  • Job opportunities across New Zealand and Australia, with local recruiters in each location
  • Many placements are not available through adverts
  • Support at every stage, from career guidance to job search management including personalised interview prep to help you succeed
