Job description

Term of App't: Temporary, Full Time (Monday - Friday, 7 hours per day) Start date: Immediately Reporting to: IT Infrastructure Manager Salary: Classification 17, $32.73 – $33.74 per hour in accordance with the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees in this role receive an additional $0.58/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay, and a Labour Market Adjustment stipend of $5.49/hour. Please note: Campuses are closed during the Christmas break (December 25 – January 1), which is unpaid. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining and supporting the College's IT infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, storage, virtualization, and associated hardware and software. The incumbent will provide technical expertise and support to ensure the stability, security, and optimal performance of the College's IT systems. This position requires a strong understanding of systems administration principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Key Responsibilities: * Maintain and administer the College's server infrastructure, including Windows and Linux servers. * Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal system uptime and performance. * Manage and maintain storage systems, including SAN and NAS. * Implement and maintain virtualization technologies, such as VMware. * Manage and maintain Active Directory and related services. * Manage and maintain email systems, including Microsoft Exchange. * Implement and maintain security measures to protect the College's IT infrastructure and data. * Develop and maintain documentation for IT systems and procedures. * Provide technical support to end-users and other IT staff. * Participate in IT projects and initiatives as required. * Stay up-to-date with the latest IT technologies and trends. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems administration. * Strong understanding of Windows and Linux server operating systems. * Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware. * Experience with storage systems, including SAN and NAS. * Experience with Active Directory and related services. * Experience with email systems, such as Microsoft Exchange. * Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSE, VCP) are an asset.
