Senior System Engineer (all genders) – VMware Virtualization

Work Environment: Client from the public sector / critical data center infrastructure

For the operation and further development of a business-critical virtualization platform at a client from the public sector, we are looking for an experienced Senior VMware Engineer (all genders).

The platform places high demands on availability, stability, security, and quality. You will work in a complex enterprise environment and be responsible for the stable operation as well as the continuous further development of the VMware infrastructure. In doing so, you will analyze and solve challenging technical issues, optimize operational processes, and support knowledge transfer within the team to ensure sustainable and high-quality operation.

You have extensive experience in the enterprise operation of VMware environments, work pragmatically and solution-oriented, take responsibility, and possess a strong hands-on mentality.

Platform Operation and Administration

• Operation and administration of VMware vSphere environments
• Analysis and resolution of complex disturbances
• Implementation of technical changes
• Capacity and availability management
• Support for maintenance, upgrade, and migration measures
• Ensuring stable and audit-proof operation

• Ensuring high professional quality of service delivery
• Conducting technical reviews
• Participation in the optimization of operational processes
• Support with critical technical issues and escalations
• Identification of technical risks and derivation of suitable measures

• Maintenance and creation of technical documentation
• Support in the establishment and further development of knowledge bases
• Knowledge transfer within the team
• Reduction of knowledge and personnel dependencies
• Support in establishing robust representation arrangements

• Professional collaboration with the client's contact persons
• Participation in technical coordination meetings
• Proactive communication of risks and action needs
• Support in the successful implementation of customer requirements

Technical Requirements

• Successfully completed studies in computer science (business informatics or general) or a comparable IT qualification
• Several years of practical experience in the operation of larger VMware enterprise environments
• Very good knowledge of: 
  • VMware vSphere
  • VMware ESXi
  • VMware vCenter
  • Virtual Infrastructure Management
• In-depth knowledge of Windows Server environments
• Experience in data center operation
• Experience in Incident, Problem, and Change Management
• Experience in installation, administration, and migration of systems
• Very good documentation skills
• Knowledge of established IT service processes (e.g., ITIL)

• Veeam Backup & Recovery
• Storage technologies
• Microsoft Server infrastructure
• PowerShell automation
• Experience in public sector, KRITIS, or enterprise environments
• VMware certifications
• Experience in complex migration or transformation projects

• High personal responsibility in analyzing and solving complex problems
