Senior Software Developer Java - Data Team (Deutsche Bahn)

Shape the future of Deutsche Bahn's data and messaging ecosystem and develop central backend systems that reliably enable real-time data exchange between different systems.

• You will work on a platform that enables real-time data exchange between a variety of systems, especially within the DB Group

• You will develop scalable backend components based on Java and bring your experience with frameworks like Spring or Quarkus

• You will develop and operate services within a Kafka-centric platform and actively contribute to its scaling, stability, and performance

• You will develop solutions in the area of messaging (Kafka, MQTT, AMQP) and are familiar with the typical challenges of continuous streaming systems

• You will implement and operate classic interfaces such as REST, GraphQL, RPC, or WebSockets

• Several years of experience in Java backend development (5+ years), ideally with modern frameworks such as Spring or Quarkus

• Experience with event streaming and messaging, preferably Apache Kafka, ideally complemented by MQTT or AMQP

• In-depth knowledge of SQL databases and several years of cloud experience, ideally in AWS

• Practical experience in building, configuring, and operating CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, Docker, and Bash scripting

• Proficiency in handling structured data formats such as JSON, Protobuf, or Avro, and ideally knowledge in data analysis and processing, e.g., with Python

• Furthermore, you demonstrate a high degree of teamwork, strong communication skills, and initiative

• You speak fluent German and can communicate well both orally and in writing in English
