Job description
Not every heroic deed is loud. Over 22,000 companies rely on easybill, often without realizing it. We ensure that invoices, processes, and integrations run smoothly in everyday life. Remote-first, technically challenging, with a lot of ownership. If you want to build systems that make real work easier:
Welcome to easybill.
You get clear priorities, short paths, and enough space to solve things really cleanly. No meeting karaoke. No corporate polonaise. No 'We need seven approvals for this.' Instead: focus, responsibility, good tools, and people who prefer to solve problems rather than manage them.
The ideal profile? You have deep PHP/Symfony experience, are proficient in TypeScript, and are eager to take on responsibility like a Founding Engineer: pragmatic, clean, with a holistic view. If your profile doesn't tick every box, but you are an exceptionally strong engineer: Apply anyway and show us what you've built.
Tasks
We are a highly motivated engineering team with a lot of ownership and short communication channels. As part of it, you will build new features, solve scaling problems, and take responsibility for complete projects – from idea to clean operation.
We are looking for people who don't just work on tickets, but understand and improve systems and want to actively shape the e-invoicing landscape.
Our main application is written in PHP and TypeScript. In the area of e-invoicing, we also operate microservices on the JVM with Java and Kotlin. In addition, there is MySQL or Percona XtraDB Cluster, TiDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, MinIO, Docker, and other tools that are needed when over 22,000 companies rely on stable processes every day. Confident handling of multiple programming languages is important for this role.
- You work independently, motivated, and self-organized. We are happy to invest in good colleagues – and at the same time have high expectations.
- You will develop backend features with PHP 8.x and Symfony: domain logic, APIs, and interfaces in a data-intensive codebase that has grown over 18 years.
- You will work on the frontend with TypeScript, React, and TanStack on modern interfaces and product-related workflows.
- You will develop Node.js services for selected areas of our platform with TypeScript and Next.js.
- You will work on JVM microservices with Java and Kotlin in the e-invoicing area.
- You will migrate data, refactor existing modules, and gradually modernize legacy PHP areas cleanly.
- You will delve deep into error analysis and debugging when systems are not running as they should.
- You will use AI as a real productivity booster. Claude Code is not a toy here, but part of the engineering everyday life – and we expect you to work intensively with it.
- Depending on the topic, you will also work on infrastructure and local Dockerized development environments.
Qualification
Fundamentally, you don't have to know everything. More important is: You can show that you are really deeply involved in your current technology stack, make good technical decisions, and can quickly learn new systems.
Our stack is demanding, but you will get clear priorities, good tools, and a team that shares knowledge – in return, we expect self-responsibility, strong learning ability, and the ambition to solve things cleanly.
- You have deep, self-responsible knowledge in software development with PHP and Symfony at a senior level – with clean domain design, testing, and performance in a large, long-lived codebase. Depending on your focus, you also bring TypeScript/React.
- You are proficient with relational databases like MySQL, including query optimization and data modeling for large amounts of data.
- Bonus: You have experience with Node.js, data structures & algorithms, distributed systems, and data-intensive applications.
- Bonus: You have experience with JVM languages like Java or Kotlin. In general, we are happy about exceptionally strong engineers, even from other stacks.
- Bonus: You have open-source contributions or public experiments on GitHub.
- Language: You speak fluent German and have good English skills.
Benefits
- Germany-wide Remote-First Team – no location dependency.
- Workation in Mallorca - Our employees have the opportunity to use the rented villa in Mallorca for an inspiring combination of work and relaxation.
- High Impact.
- An inspiring and flexible work environment based on trust and self-responsibility.
- We are an open, motivated, and friendly team with a flat hierarchy.
- No sprints and artificially generated pressure.
- Fair compensation packages and development opportunities.
- 30 days of annual leave and an indefinite employment contract.
- Working hours are flexible and coordinated with the team.
- Voluntary employee events.
- Current MacBook Pros.
- Training/further education opportunities worth up to EUR 1,500 per year.
We have diverse challenges and are looking for a motivated team player! If you recognize yourself in this and are looking for a new challenge, we look forward to receiving your application.
We look forward to hearing from you!
