Senior Software Engineer eCommerce (Magento 2) (m/w/d) - Full-time | Remote (DE) or Hybrid (Berlin/Xanten)

We are an E-Commerce company group with a seat in Berlin and Xanten. We develop furniture brands, design products, and operate international online shops. Our focus lies on outdoor living, children's room furniture, and lifestyle segments.

Team MB combines design competence, brand management, and digital trade systems into an integrated corporate model. We develop products ourselves, manage brands operationally, and expand through our own shops in European markets. Technologically, we rely on Magento 2.4 with Hyvä frontend and an AWS cloud infrastructure.

As Senior Software Engineer, you will work in the core team together with another developer and coordinate collaboration with several external agencies. You will take end-to-end responsibility for features – from requirement intake with departments to technical conception and deployment. You will align requirements, priorities, and timelines independently with internal stakeholders (in German) and steer implementation with agencies (in English). You will work closely with the CTO, drive architectural decisions forward, and see the direct business impact of your work on own products.

Tasks

• Taking requirements from departments, technically evaluating them, and aligning realistic timelines
• Steering and quality assurance of collaboration with external development agencies, conducting code reviews, and taking results
• Development and maintenance of Magento 2 modules and shop features across multiple Magento instances and countries
• Architectural and design decisions for scalable, maintainable codebases
• Supporting international expansion (Multi-Store, Multi-Language, Multi-Currency, country-specific tax and shipping regulations)
• Etablishing and utilizing AI in development processes

Qualification

Must-haves:

• At least 3 years of experience in software development, preferably in e-commerce
• Fundamental PHP knowledge and secure object-oriented programming
• Deep understanding of the Magento 2 module system
• Communication strength: You can explain technical matters to non-technical stakeholders and align requirements independently with departments
• Very good German language skills (at least C1) for communication with internal departments and management
• Good English language skills in writing and speaking for ticketing and collaboration with external agencies

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience with the Hyvä theme (Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS)
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS Aurora MySQL, CloudFront, WAFv2) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Terragrunt)
• Experience with OpenSearch in the Magento context
• Experience in managing external service providers or agency teams
• Experience with performance profiling (New Relic, Xdebug)
• Adobe Commerce / Magento certification
