Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work within one of our product teams on reliable, scalable, and future-proof software. You will take responsibility for complex technical issues, contribute to finding the best solutions, and ensure our software continues to function well and can be maintained in the long term.

You look beyond just your own tasks. You help other Engineers grow, contribute to technical decisions, and identify risks and opportunities for improvement. You will work closely with Product Owners, Engineers, and colleagues from the business.

What will you do?

As a Senior Software Engineer, you play an important role in the technical development of our digital products. You will combine developing software yourself with guiding colleagues and improving quality within your team.

You will work within one of our five product pillars: Operations, Parts & Tyres, Buyer, Seller, or Platform Engineering. Together with your team, you will develop solutions that directly contribute to the growth of BAS World.

Your responsibilities:

• You design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable software, taking responsibility for complex technical issues;

• You translate product ambitions into technical solutions and make well-founded choices regarding architecture, quality, and maintainability;

• You actively participate during the discovery phase, explore different solution directions, and help validate ideas with prototypes;

• You ensure the quality of our software and apply standards in areas such as testing, security, observability, and CI/CD;

• You guide junior and medior Engineers through mentoring, code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing;

• You take the lead in complex incidents, investigate causes, and ensure structural improvements;

• You identify technical risks, tech debt, and improvement opportunities, and contribute to finding suitable solutions;

• You work closely with Product Owners, Engineers, and colleagues from the business to align technical choices and solutions effectively.

You combine technical depth with collaboration and knowledge sharing. You not only build reliable software yourself but also help your team make increasingly better technical decisions.

Your specifications

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer who combines technical knowledge with ownership, collaboration, and a product-oriented mindset.

What you bring:

• You have extensive experience as a Software Engineer and can independently solve complex technical problems;

• You take responsibility for the entire development process, from technical choices to reliable operation in production;

• You think in terms of scalable and maintainable solutions and prevent unnecessary technical complexity;

• You can well-substantiate technical choices and explain them clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues;

• You identify technical risks and improvement opportunities and take initiative to address them;

• You enjoy sharing your knowledge and guiding junior and medior Engineers;

• You enjoy collaborating with various disciplines and contributing to product development;

• You work at least four days a week from our office in Veghel, allowing for close collaboration with your team.

Additionally, you have experience with a significant portion of the following technologies and methodologies:

• PHP, Laravel, and/or other modern frontend and backend technologies;

• Cloud-native software development, preferably within AWS;

• APIs and distributed systems;

• CI/CD, automated testing, and databases;

• Software architecture, observability, security, and scalability.

You don't need to master every technology in detail. What's most important to us is that you have a strong technical foundation, can solve complex problems independently, and know how to impart your knowledge to others.
