Job description

What it's about

MAIA is an AI platform for companies. With MAIA, teams search their internal data and anchor agents deeply into their processes. We support companies in implementing AI not just in individual departments, but across the entire organization.

Technically, this means: We are building a GenAI application with proprietary agent systems, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows, connecting to our customers' external systems and analyzing their data. We use the best available models, operated in the EU, and make them reliable for demanding work with large, complex datasets.

Numerous industrial companies have been working intensively with MAIA for years. After our successful Series A funding round in 2026, we are now bringing MAIA to a broader market. MAIA has been developed in Leipzig since 2021.

What you will do with us

As a Software Engineer, you will further develop MAIA and influence how we solve problems from the outset.

What you can work on:

  • From concept to feature. Together with product management, you will refine rough concepts and be responsible for features from prototype to further development based on feedback and usage data.

  • Chat and Agents. You will shape how people work with MAIA: asking questions, providing context, and letting agents complete multi-stage tasks – with traceable progress and verifiable results.

  • Unlocking corporate knowledge. You will connect external systems and make knowledge from various file formats usable. MAIA will find the right information, provide answers with sources, and adhere to existing access rights.

  • Models and Quality. You will integrate new language models and compare quality, cost, and speed. With evals, you will identify errors and systematically improve answers and agents.

  • Secure, fast, and stable. You will build isolated environments for code and tool execution and improve response times and data processing so that MAIA runs reliably even with large knowledge bases.

What we are looking for

  • Solid Software Engineering. You have built, delivered, and operated backend systems in production for an extended period. Architecture, API design, data modeling, and asynchronous processing are familiar to you. You can spot weak architecture even when a coding agent wrote it.

  • Proficient in at least one of our languages. TypeScript, Python, or Go, preferably one of the statically typed ones. You don't need to know all three. You will learn the others.

  • At home in the LLM ecosystem. You have built real applications with LLMs, professionally or in complex personal projects. You know RAG, embeddings, vector search, and tool calling from practical experience, including their limitations. You explore new models and frameworks proactively, distinguishing substance from hype. Production experience with LLM systems is a big plus.

  • Measure instead of guess. You know how to test and evaluate systems that don't always respond the same way to the same question. You build the simplest solution that solves the problem. Additional retrieval stages, prompt chains, or abstractions are only added when measurements justify them.

  • Product thinking. You think about the person who has to finalize a quote or clarify a technical question under time pressure using MAIA. You enjoy getting involved in product management concepts early on, ask the right questions, and contribute your own solution ideas, even if not everything is decided yet.

  • Work agentically. Coding agents are part of your daily routine. You write plans that others can review and build upon, critically assess the results, and know where they are helpful and where they are not.

  • Consider security. Our customers trust us with their internal knowledge. Tenant isolation, access rights, and secure development are self-evident to you.

  • Communicate clearly. You explain technical contexts understandably, including to product management, customer success, and sales. You speak German and English very fluently.

The role does not involve personnel responsibility. Whether you start as a Software Engineer or Senior Software Engineer will be discussed openly with you at the latest after the technical interview.

Working at MAIA

We are united by a common goal: to build a really good product. Everyone takes responsibility for their own area. We enjoy our work and are proud of what our customers achieve with MAIA. Processes are short, and decisions are made quickly. In the engineering team, we critically question how we develop and continuously improve our processes, especially in agentic development.

We enjoy working together in our office, centrally located between the city center and the zoo, and we cook together almost every day. We are on-site at least three days a week; on the other days, you work wherever you want. You decide when your day starts.

  • Access to current frontier models and coding agents

  • Support for further training that aligns with your professional development

  • Access to a Wellpass membership

Compensation

The annual gross salary is between €75,000 and €95,000. Your position within this range depends on your level. We will discuss this further at the latest after the technical interview. Additionally, there is virtual equity participation through our VSOP.

Application and next steps

You do not need a cover letter. Send us your CV and answer one question in a few sentences of your own: Why do you want to help shape MAIA?

We work with AI every day. However, for this answer, your own perspective counts. Therefore, please write it yourself, feel free to keep it brief and without fine-tuning.

If it's a match, a 30-minute get-to-know-you session, a 90-minute technical interview, and a final interview with management will follow. After each step, you will typically hear from us within two working days. Our goal is a decision within approximately three weeks.

We look forward to your application.
