Job description

Are you a driven project manager who loves challenges and innovation? Do you enjoy working on complex and innovative rail infrastructure projects and leading teams to success? As a Senior Project Manager for Energy Supply at GVB, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and improvement of our metro and tram network. Thanks to your efforts, our metros and trams will continue to run safely and reliably. This way, you contribute directly to our mission: connecting Amsterdam with the world.

What you will do

As a Senior Project Manager for Energy Supply, you will be responsible for the realization of large-scale energy assignments. GVB will carry out various replacement and modification projects in the coming years to ensure the availability, reliability, and safety of the infrastructure. Within the Energy Supply cluster, a unique and strategically important part of the project office, this creates room for three senior project managers.

You will play an important role in the renewal of GVB's energy supply. You will work closely with the Energy Desk and focus on multi-year replacement programs. These programs are part of one large, strategic program, which also includes preparations for grid congestion.

The program consists of multiple sub-tasks. The first is the replacement of approximately 44 rectifier stations with a 20 kV connection. This is currently in the preparation phase, started in 2023. The tender is planned for 2025. The entire program will last approximately ten years, with the first replacements possibly being offered to the market in packages.

Within GVB, you will make strategic choices that contribute to efficient and effective execution. Ongoing and future rail infrastructure projects will be bundled into larger programs. This includes the replacement of section cabinets, rectifier stations, and installations with voltages between 600 and 750 volts. Together with the Vervoerregio Amsterdam, the Rectifier Station Program has been established due to the end of the technical lifespan of the current installations. To keep the program manageable, it will be executed in phases.

You will provide functional leadership to a multidisciplinary project team. You will ensure direction, coordination, and progress, without hierarchical control.

In short, a challenging role where you make a difference. As a connector, driver, and builder, you will work on projects that truly impact a more accessible Amsterdam. Together, we will make the city ready for tomorrow.

What you bring

You are a strategic thinker and a natural leader. With your technical knowledge and strong communication skills, you can effortlessly switch between different levels, involve stakeholders in your vision, and maintain control over both the content and the process. What else you bring:

  • University level work and thinking, in mechanical or electrical engineering, and knowledge of project management.
  • Extensive experience as a project manager in a technical environment, preferably rail infrastructure.
  • Experience with project management methodologies such as IPMA or PRINCE2, and with various contract forms.
  • You enjoy working in complex project environments and get energy from collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

What you can count on

You take good care of our travelers, so we take good care of you. This is what we offer you:

  • A salary of at least € 4,504 and a maximum of € 6,406 (Scale 11) gross per month based on 36 hours per week. Placement will be based on education and relevant work experience.
  • A 13th month, 8% holiday pay, and a sustainable employability allowance of 1.5%.
  • A well-arranged pension via ABP. GVB pays two-thirds of the premium.
  • Free and unlimited travel with GVB for you. Your family can travel at a discount.
  • An average of 21 vacation days per year (depending on your age), with the option to buy extra leave hours.
  • Instead of Good Friday and May 1st, you can choose 2 days off that suit you.
  • A contribution to your health insurance of € 84.91 per month.
  • Possibility to work hybrid with a home office allowance.
  • Various training and career development opportunities.

Your team

You will work at the Rail Infrastructure project office, where the tram and metro teams collaborate closely on energy supply assignments. Together with colleagues, including project managers, contract managers, and technical specialists, you will work on challenging projects. The atmosphere is informal, with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation, and professionalism.

As a Senior Project Manager, you are an important part of the Integrated Project Management Team (IPM team). You will manage and coordinate complex projects, from planning and risk management to maintaining contact with all involved parties.
