(Senior) Project Development Lead BESS - Hamburg
Job description
We're driving the energy transition forward – and you can be part of it!
At Return, you'll develop large-scale battery storage projects that determine whether renewable energy really makes it into the system – or gets lost.
We're not building concepts. We're building infrastructure.
Return is not a classical project developer. We're an independent Energy-Infrastructure Platform, developing, building, owning, and operating large-scale battery storage across Europe – and providing storage capacity as a service.
What sets us apart:
- Platform instead of single projects – Access to a European-wide network of interconnected storage („virtual battery“)
- Independent from energy trading – We operate no own trading strategies, we enable them
- Capital-strong & scalable – 300 Mio. € growth capital through APG (ABP) for rapid pipeline execution
- Real scale – 2 Mrd. € secured projects & goal of ~5 GW storage capacity in Europe
- Execution instead of theory – Projects with secured grid connection and rapid realization
From Hamburg, our experienced team is responsible for projects in the German market: We shape our own projects independently and benefit from the expertise of an international group with over 100 employees and locations, including Amsterdam, Madrid, Berlin, and Munich.
We're not looking for administrators. We're looking for Makers, who actively implement our strategy, make decisions, and take responsibility.
If you love complex projects and real ownership, apply now and become part of our team in Hamburg!

- Budget, time, and resource management – Adhering to budget and timeline, coordinating external service providers
- Feasibility to ensure – Regulatorily, technically, and economically
- Management reporting & approvals – Preparing decision-making documents and steering internal approval processes
Qualifikation
- Completed studies in the field of economics, economics engineering, environmental sciences, engineering, or a comparable field
- Multiple years of experience (at least 3 years) in project management, ideally in the field of renewable energies or infrastructure projects in a comparable function, for example, at a project developer, investment/asset manager, consulting firm, investment bank, or private equity
- Fundamental understanding of regulatory and network-side requirements
- Entrepreneurial thinking, ownership mindset, and hands-on mentality („make it work“)
- Fluent German and English skills

- High implementation speed – Access to capital-strong structures without conglomerate sluggishness
- Ownership & design scope – Responsibility from day one and genuine decision-making competence
