Senior Programme Coordinator Role type: Full-time, fixed-term until August 2027 Location: Wellington Salary band & range: General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $95,000 depending on skills and experience About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga The Digital Border Programme is a major multi-agency initiative, building on the New Zealand Traveller Declaration to deliver a seamless, faster experience for international passengers while strengthening biosecurity. This large programme spans multiple projects, including digital solutions, infrastructure upgrades, and integration with airport and maritime developments. It is a high-profile, complex programme under significant scrutiny, requiring strong governance and robust delivery. As Senior Programme Coordinator, you'll play a pivotal role in keeping the programme operating to the highest standards. You'll provide oversight and coordination across projects and workstreams, ensuring governance, reporting, programme controls and financial processes are accurate and timely. This role demands a proactive, highly experienced professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, can pivot quickly, and brings exceptional attention to detail and relationship management skills. Your key responsibilities will include: * Leading preparations and follow-up actions for Programme Governance Board and Steering Group meetings. * Managing programme reporting processes, ensuring timely, accurate status reports and ad-hoc reporting for governance and senior stakeholders. * Maintaining programme registers, including risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, and lessons learned. * Monitoring and reporting on programme finances, including accruals and forecasting, and work with finance partners to track budgets and contribute to business cases and programme management plans. * Supporting the Programme Director and Programme Managers with day-to-day delivery, including schedules, change control, and document development. * Maintaining stakeholder analysis tools and manage communications with internal and external stakeholders. You will bring strong governance, planning, and reporting skills, with the ability to pivot quickly and maintain accuracy under pressure. Your proactive, detail-oriented approach will ensure quality outcomes, and you're confident engaging with senior stakeholders while supporting teams to deliver efficiently. You're enthusiastic about learning and contributing to a major change programme, with a mindset that values thoroughness and continuous improvement. You'll combine technical expertise with adaptability, using your advanced skills in programme coordination and financial tracking to keep everything running smoothly. You're comfortable working in ambiguity, managing multiple priorities, and providing clear, tailored advice and reporting that supports strategic decision-making. Your experience will include: * Project and/or Programme Management certification (Prince2/MSP). * 3–5 years in a relevant professional role, ideally in a Programme Management or PMO environment. * Proven experience in programme planning, monitoring, risk mitigation, and reporting. * Ability to deliver accurate, high-quality advice and documentation on time. * Strong data gathering, verification, and analysis skills with an eye for detail. * Advanced MS Excel skills and proficiency in MS Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and MS Project. * Experience developing and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders * Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, adaptable to different audiences. * Ability to perform under pressure and in ambiguous environments. * High-level analytical and evaluation skills. * Experience working in a New Zealand government agency (desired). * Experience in information and data management (desired). About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū The Digital Border Programme was established within the Biosecurity New Zealand business unit of MPI in 2023 to deliver transformational change to New Zealand's border operations. The Digital Border Programme Team comprises project and programme professionals, technology specialists, business analysis, change and subject matter experts who are working collaboratively with the business and partner border agencies to design and deliver changes that will future proof biosecurity processing against increasing passenger volumes, which are projected to increase by as much as 50% by 2038.
