Job description

SKALAR – We are building the digital tax firm of the future

Radically simple. Fully digital. 100% client-focused.

We are rethinking tax consulting completely: simpler, faster, and more transparent for both clients and the firm's team.

Where other firms struggle with manual processes, long waiting times, and opaque communication, we are building a completely new experience – digital, proactive, AI-powered. With automated processes in the background and digital interfaces to clients, repetitive tasks largely run themselves – so you have time for what really matters: sophisticated consulting, special cases, and strategic client questions.

The difference compared to other "digital firms": Over half of our team are software developers. You will directly shape what they build – and thus how AI-powered tax consulting will look in this industry at all. Your tax knowledge shapes the product, not just its application.

We are an experienced founding team of tax advisors, digital entrepreneurs, and software developers with an exit track record of €140 million. Together with you, we want to build one of the leading tax firms in Germany.

Your Mission

Deliver AI features that move the needle: You will be responsible for AI features end-to-end – document recognition, classification, automatic drafting of tax response letters, RAG over client files. You will build the evaluation frameworks, drive prompt iterations, and make build-vs-buy decisions on models and tooling. No handovers, no excuses.

Become obsessed with the user: You will conduct discovery the hard way: interviews, shadowing sessions, synthesis of raw feedback. You will go deep enough to distinguish real from assumed problems – and become the sharpest voice of the user in your product line.

Own the roadmap, defend the trade-offs: You will be responsible for your product line's roadmap end-to-end. Prioritization based on business value, technical feasibility, and regulatory fit. You will clearly communicate trade-offs to engineering, tax consulting, and founders – and defend your decisions with data.

Maintain the standard for design: You will set and protect a high visual standard. Figma proficiency at a review and sketch level: You will design flows, critique components, and block anything that doesn't meet the standard. The best tax UX is invisible – make ours invisible.

Operate on data, not gut feeling: You will define the KPIs that matter – Time-to-Filing, Automation Rate, Client Satisfaction, Advisor Efficiency – and steer every iteration from dashboards. Gut feeling won't get features into production here.

Drive the AI frontier: You don't follow the AI debate – you drive it. Evals, prompt iteration, cost-quality trade-offs in production. You will tirelessly experiment with what's possible and bring the cutting edge into the product.

Be the connective tissue: You sit between engineering, tax consulting, and clients, making the organization faster. First-principles thinking.

Your Profile

Product Experience: 3-6 years of product management in B2B SaaS, FinTech, Finance, Tax, or a comparably complex environment. You can point to features you were responsible for from vision to measurable impact – not features you contributed to.

AI Track Record: Delivered at least one AI/LLM feature in production – with real evals, prompt iteration, and responsibility for cost-quality trade-offs. Solid understanding of modern LLM stacks: RAG, Prompt Engineering, Fine-tuning vs. In-Context Learning, Vector Stores. ChatGPT prompts don't count – we want AI-native workflows that you have actually built.

Client Empathy That Translates: Genuine empathy for both sides – the advisor under deadline pressure and the client who just wants certainty – and the discipline to translate this empathy into product decisions, not just backlog items.

Eye for Design: Figma proficiency at sketch and review level. Clear opinions on what good UI looks like, and zero tolerance for sloppy interfaces. Enthusiasm for Claude Design is a plus.

AI Enthusiasm: You use AI products daily, critique them publicly or privately, and have sharp views on where they are heading. Practical familiarity with Claude Cowork/Design/Code, GPT, Gemini, or similar is the baseline.

Self-Starter: You don't wait to be unblocked. You prototype, test prompts, wire up integrations, hack together what's needed. If something is blocked, you unblock it.

Structured Thinking: MECE, First Principles, hypothesis-driven. You condense ambiguity into clear decisions – not into more slide decks.

Communication: Excellent English (C2). German is a strong plus.

Domain Background: Experience in Finance, Tax, Accounting, or adjacent domains is a strong plus – as is familiarity with accounting/finance software stacks, DATEV, ELSTER, or regulated data workflows.
