Job description
What it's about
MAIA is an AI platform for businesses. With MAIA, teams search their internal data and anchor agents deep within their processes. We support companies in implementing AI not just in individual departments, but throughout the entire organization.
Technically, this means: We are building a GenAI application with our own agent systems, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows, connecting to our customers' external systems and analyzing their data. We use the best available models, operated in the EU, and make them reliable for demanding work with large, complex datasets.
Numerous industrial companies have been working intensively with MAIA for years. After our successful financing round in 2026, we are now bringing MAIA to a broader audience. MAIA has been developed in Leipzig since 2021.
What you'll do with us
As a Product Engineer, you will be responsible for features from beginning to end: from discussions with customers to concept development, implementation, and further development in production.
What you can work on:
Understand customers and the market. You talk to users, accompany customer appointments, and analyze usage data. This is how you find out where MAIA can be most helpful in daily work. You will work closely with Product Management and Customer Success.
From problem to concept. You write concepts, build prototypes to test ideas quickly, and design features so that they reach users early.
Implement across the entire stack. You write the implementation plan, have coding agents implement it, and are responsible for architecture and quality, from the data model to the user interface.
AI that people understand. You shape how people work with MAIA: asking questions, providing context, letting agents complete multi-stage tasks, and understanding the results.
Measure and evolve. After release, you check if a feature is being used and is helpful, and you develop it further based on feedback, usage data, and evaluations.
What we're looking for
Solid software engineering. You have built and operated products in production that people use daily, across backend and frontend. You can recognize weak architecture even when a coding agent has written it.
Very good in at least one of our languages. TypeScript, Python, or Go, preferably one of the statically typed ones. You don't need to know all three. You will learn the others.
Product experience. You have spoken with customers, questioned requirements, and accompanied features from the initial idea to daily use. You listen carefully and recognize the problem behind a request.
A feel for good usability. You notice when an interface overwhelms people and prefer to build a simple solution that is understood rather than a powerful one that no one can find.
At home in the LLM ecosystem. You have built applications with LLMs, professionally or in complex personal projects, and you know their peculiarities: answers vary, take time, and agents fail in unexpected places. You build products that deal with this honestly.
Measure instead of guess. You check whether a feature is effective using usage data, feedback, and evaluations. You build the simplest solution that solves the problem.
Work agentically. Coding agents are part of your daily routine. You write plans that others can review and build upon, critically assess the results, and know where they help and where they don't.
Communicate clearly. Your concepts are understood on the first read. You enjoy talking to customers as much as to engineers. You speak fluent German and equally fluent English.
The role does not include personnel responsibility. Whether you start as a Product Engineer or Senior Product Engineer, we will discuss it openly with you at the latest after the technical interview.
Working at MAIA
We are united by a common goal: to build a really good product. Everyone takes responsibility for their own area. We enjoy our work and are proud of what our customers achieve with MAIA. Processes are short, and decisions are made quickly. In the engineering team, we critically question how we develop and continuously improve our processes, especially in agentic development.
We enjoy working together in our office, centrally located between the city center and the zoo, and we cook together almost every day. We are on-site at least three days a week; on the other days, you work wherever you want. You set your own start time.
Access to current frontier models and coding agents
Support for further training that aligns with your professional development
Access to a Wellpass membership
Compensation
The annual gross salary ranges from €75,000 to €95,000. Your position within this range depends on your level. We will discuss this further at the latest after the technical interview. Additionally, there is a virtual participation through our VSOP.
Application and next steps
You do not need a cover letter. Send us your CV and answer one question in a few sentences of your own: Why do you want to help shape MAIA?
We work with AI every day. However, for this answer, your own perspective counts. Please write it yourself, feel free to be brief and without fine-tuning.
If it's a match, a 30-minute getting-to-know-you meeting will follow, then a 90-minute technical interview, which will also cover product decisions, and finally, a closing conversation with management. After each step, you will typically hear from us within two working days. Our goal is a decision within approximately three weeks.
We look forward to your application.
