Job description

My client is a high-growth tech scale-up transforming an essential industry, where ideas are valued, impact is real, and growth is limitless. This is an office-based role with a personal development budget, wellness perks, paid parental leave, unlimited annual leave, and stock options.

About the role
We're looking for a talented and disciplined Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our client's team in Auckland. Our client has just released their best product yet and is poised for aggressive production scaling to support a global market. Their hardware needs to last a very long time in an extremely harsh environment, making this one of the most unique and challenging applications in mechanical engineering.
Their mission is to make global agriculture more sustainable and more profitable, and their hardware is a core piece of that mission. You will be a driver, not a passenger, and will have ample opportunity for up-skilling, leadership, mentorship, and career development.

What you'll do
  • Highly reliable device design: Develop and deliver robust electro-mechanical products through to production.
  • Verification and validation: Design, conduct, and document high-quality tests to validate production processes for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Injection Molding: Work with external suppliers and contract manufacturers to produce high-quality injection molded parts. This includes tool commissioning and troubleshooting common issues.
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA): Design and iterate parts and assemblies to make them easy to manufacture and assemble.
  • Pragmatic and adaptable: Drive success for yourself and the team with high ownership and accountability, even with unclear objectives.
  • Travel: Collaborate with external suppliers, which may require travel to China and Thailand (approximately 10% of the year).
You'll be great if you have
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
  • Experience in at least one stage of the hardware design process (Design, Prototype, Testing, Release).
  • CAD experience, specifically with SolidWorks.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacture (DFM).
  • Experience developing robust products for harsh environments, such as automotive, agricultural, or military applications.
Only candidates based in New Zealand will be considered for this opportunity.
