About the role
Our client, a respected organisation in the financial services sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their CBD based team for a 3 – 4-month Fixed Term Contract. Ideally commencing in late January 2026, this role will provide strategic legal and governance support to the Board and senior leaders and oversee legal operations and company secretarial functions for their New Zealand business.
This is an important where you’ll provide general commercial contracts advice on a wide variety of issues and support the company secretarial function during a period of transition. Supported by a small legal team you will manage external counsel relationships and keep a variety of corporate projects, including acquisitions, product development, and compliance initiatives moving in the right direction whilst the business recruit a permanent role.
While this is preferably a full-time fixed term contract role, our client promotes flexible working for all employees and encourages both working remotely and in the office.

What we’re looking for
- A smart and savvy lawyer with upwards of 10 years' PQE, including senior roles in a major law firm or corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand’s legal and regulatory framework for financial services.
- Proven experience managing board relationships and company secretarial duties.
- Exceptional communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Driven and results-focused, with a pragmatic and positive attitude, you will happily work autonomously and be confident of your ability to manage a wide variety of stakeholders
