Senior Legal Counsel / Assistant Director, Legal Posting Start Date: 03/06/2026 Schemes of Service: Corporate Division: Legal Employment Type: Fixed Term We are looking for a legal professional to join our Legal Division as Senior Legal Counsel or Assistant Director, Legal. This role supports the Director of Legal in providing strategic legal guidance on all legal issues for the University, including but not limited to shaping legal strategies, providing in-house advice, monitoring statutory and regulatory developments, advising on risk management and compliance matters, and ensuring that the University's interests are protected. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other departments and stakeholders across the University, as well as external partners and clients. Key responsibilities include: • Providing strategic legal guidance to the Director of Legal and other senior leaders within the University; • Developing and implementing legal strategies in consultation with the Director of Legal; • Providing in-house advice on a wide range of legal issues, including employment law, intellectual property, contracts, and regulatory compliance; • Monitoring statutory and regulatory developments that may impact the University's operations or interests; • Advising on risk management and compliance matters to ensure that the University is operating within its legal and regulatory obligations; • Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders across the University to develop and implement policies and procedures that align with the University's goals and objectives; • Developing and maintaining relationships with external partners and clients, including government agencies, industry associations, and community organizations. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong understanding of legal principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A law degree (LL.B or J.D.) is required, and a Master's degree in Law (LL.M) or equivalent would be an asset. The ideal candidate will also have at least 5 years of experience working in a similar role within the higher education sector or a related field.
