Senior ICT System Engineer (m/f/d)

As an experienced ICT System Engineer, you are an essential part of our team. You plan, implement, and optimize modern ICT platforms and ensure their secure, stable, and high-performance operation. With your technical expertise, your eye for the overall system, and your solution-oriented approach, you develop sustainable infrastructure solutions for our clients.

• You design, implement, and operate complex system and platform architectures in on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• You automate the provisioning, configuration, and operation of infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code and Configuration Management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell.
• You develop scripts, tools, and automations for standardizing deployments, operational processes, and recurring engineering tasks.
• You design and implement CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure, platform, and application components.
• You operate and optimize virtualized and containerized environments, for example, with VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• You integrate server, network, storage, identity, and security components into stable and scalable overall systems.
• You design technical solutions for network segmentation, DNS, load balancing, reverse proxies, firewalls, VPN, and secure system communication.
• You implement monitoring, logging, and observability solutions and use metrics, logs, and traces to analyze complex system states.
• You analyze performance problems, network errors, resource bottlenecks, and complex incidents down to the operating system, network, or application level.
• You plan and execute migrations, platform upgrades, system decommissioning, and cloud transformations.
• You develop technical standards and reference architectures for reusable and automatable platforms.
• You document architectures, configurations, dependencies, operational processes, and technical decisions in a comprehensible and practical manner.
• You work directly with software engineers, security engineers, architects, and client teams and, if necessary, take on technical leadership within a project.

• Several years of practical experience as a System Engineer, Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or in a comparable technical role.
• Very good knowledge of at least one server operating system stack, for example, Linux or Windows Server.
• In-depth understanding of TCP/IP, routing, DNS, HTTP(S), TLS, firewalls, load balancing, and basic network architectures.
• Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or comparable technologies.
• Practical experience with at least one public cloud platform such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, for example, Terraform, as well as configuration automation using Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, or comparable technologies.
• Good scripting or programming skills, for example, in PowerShell, Python, Bash, or a comparable language.
• Experience with Git-based development and deployment workflows.
• Understanding of modern CI/CD processes and experience with platforms such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
• Experience in building, operating, and troubleshooting productive ICT systems with high demands on availability, security, and traceability.
• In-depth understanding of Identity & Access Management, role and permission concepts, secrets management, and basic security principles.
• Experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery concepts and their technical implementation.
• The ability to systematically isolate complex errors and analyze problems across multiple technical layers.
• A strong engineering mindset: you automate repetitive work, prefer reproducible configurations, and treat infrastructure as code whenever possible.
• Very good German language skills and good technical English language skills.

• In-depth experience with Kubernetes and the productive operation of containerized platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes components and ecosystems such as Helm, Ingress Controllers, Operators, or GitOps.
• Knowledge of GitOps tools like Argo CD or Flux.
• Experience with observability stacks like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Elastic Stack, or comparable solutions.
• Experience with central log management and SIEM platforms.
• Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Azure, for example, Entra ID, Azure Networking, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Monitor, or Azure Policy.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, or Entra ID integrations.
• Experience with hybrid identity, network, and cloud architectures.
• Knowledge in the area of PKI, certificate management, and secrets management, for example, with HashiCorp Vault or cloud-native key management systems.
• Experience with API Gateways, Reverse Proxies, and Web Servers such as nginx, Traefik, or HAProxy.
• Knowledge in software development and experience in developing small internal services, APIs, or platform tools.
• Experience with relational databases, message queues, or distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Zero Trust, hardening, and security baseline concepts.
• Experience with high availability, failover, and disaster recovery architectures.
• Experience with Immutable Infrastructure, automated image builds, or Configuration-as-Code.
• Experience with large enterprise or government environments with complex dependencies and increased requirements for security, governance, and compliance.
• Relevant certifications, for example, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Red Hat, VMware, or HashiCorp.
