Job description

Do you want to work in a supportive environment that moves fast? The 5th largest French provider in 10 years, Octopus Energy is a renewable energy provider that acts as a true spearhead for the electro-tech revolution.

How do we do it? We can't revolutionize the world by working like everyone else. We try not to take ourselves too seriously; here, we operate in an environment with few processes and few rules. The most important thing is not just to follow the movement, but to create it.

We don't want to create company clones. We want you, with your unique talents, perspectives, and skills.

Why this role?

Octopus Energy France is experiencing strong growth in its B2C, B2B, and B2G segments, and its Finance function is structuring itself in parallel: recent migration from Odoo to NetSuite, automation of the supplier chain, interfacing with billing platforms, harmonization with the UK group's standards. We are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant capable of taking charge of a critical scope (gross margin and energy taxation), making it reliable, and developing it. More than just an executor, you will be the one who identifies problems, understands their cause, and implements sustainable solutions.

Your responsibilities
Gross margin and energy accounting
  • Manage the monthly accounting of gross margin flows (energy purchases, transmission, invoiced and un-invoiced sales) and produce a critical analysis: variations, variances, levers
  • Ensure the reliability of month-end cut-offs and estimates (accrued income, un-invoiced delivered energy, provisions), in conjunction with operational and billing teams
  • Justify and document the accounts in your scope, and resolve anomalies until their definitive resolution
  • Energy taxation and VAT
  • Prepare, control, and file VAT declarations (CA3) as well as excise duties on electricity and natural gas and the CTA (Contribution to the Final Consumption of Electricity)
  • Prepare intra-EU trade declarations (EMEBI) for intra-EU flows
  • Act as the point of contact for tax-related issues within your scope: analyze new cases (commercial offers, loyalty programs, new products), formalize a position, and challenge it with our external advisors
  • Contribute to compliance with the electronic invoicing and e-reporting reform
  • Supervision and control
  • Supervise and control accounts payable operations, and contribute to improving the automation chain (NetSuite, Rossum)
  • Act as the point of contact for statutory auditors and auditors on your scope: preparation of justifications, responses to requests, follow-up of recommendations
  • Structuring and continuous improvement
  • Identify friction points in closings and processes, propose solutions, and implement them
  • Shorten and make post-NetSuite migration monthly closings more reliable
  • Write and maintain documentation for processes and controls
  • Drive the deployment of AI and automation within Finance

  • What we expect from you
From your arrival to 3 months:
  • Take charge of NetSuite, Rossum and understand the flows between the ERP and billing and back-office systems
  • Understand the mechanisms of the energy market and the construction of gross margin
  • Complete your first closings and declarations in a duo, and deliver an initial diagnosis of the fragilities in your scope
  • From 4 to 6 months:
  • Be fully autonomous in closings, margin analysis, and all tax declarations
  • Be the reference contact for energy taxation, both internally and with auditors and advisors
  • Have implemented at least one concrete and measurable improvement (process, control, automation)
  • Beyond 6 months:
  • Be a proactive contributor to the Finance roadmap and support the upskilling of the team in your area

  • This role is for you if
  • You hold a DSCG, DCG, Master's in CCA or equivalent degree, with 4 to 7 years of experience in accounting and taxation, ideally with a stint in an audit or accounting firm followed by corporate experience
  • You have a solid command of VAT and, ideally, energy excise duties; experience in energy, utilities, or a sector with high billing volumes is a significant plus
  • You are accustomed to demanding monthly closings and exchanges with statutory auditors
  • You are very comfortable with advanced Excel (PivotTables, XLOOKUP, Power Query), analysis of large volumes; an aptitude for automation and AI tools is appreciated
  • You have good knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite is a plus) and experience with a migration or process overhaul project is desirable
  • You master French and professional English (B2-C1 level): you will regularly communicate with the group's teams in the UK
  • What will make the difference:
  • You are a true problem solver: faced with an unexplained discrepancy, you don't just correct it, you identify the root cause and ensure it doesn't happen again
  • You are comfortable in a developing environment, where everything is not yet documented, and you enjoy structuring
  • You are autonomous, rigorous, and able to prioritize in a fast-moving context
  • You can simplify technical subjects and work with non-financial stakeholders (operations, billing, IT)
  • Why you will love working with us?

Have you seen the salary or range advertised for this role but would like to discuss it? Ask us! During our first contact, this is a topic we always address because, even though we take care to define the fairest possible scales, we also consider it important to match your experience to the right salary. We will have the opportunity to tell you more about how we determined the salary and about the other benefits you can enjoy if you join us! Finally, know that we can have a certain degree of flexibility, as we never want salary to be a reason for someone not to apply to Octopus – what is most important to us is finding the right Octofit!

Certified since 2024 and 4th in 2025, Octopus Energy France is ranked 1st out of over 200 companies in the Great Place to Work 2026 rankings! This well reflects our commitment to a fulfilling work environment!

We are an organization where people learn, decide, and build faster. Where they work autonomously, with extraordinary people, on innovative projects. Profit-sharing, flex-office, excellent health insurance, soft mobility allowance, contribution to your public transport pass beyond the legal minimum, and even special days off to invest in a community project that matters to you... We want your investment to be rewarded with benefits that truly matter to you!

At Octopus, we look for people who are fundamentally kind and empathetic. Equal opportunities are important to us, and we strive to provide an inclusive and equitable work environment. We invite you to apply, regardless of your age, gender, marital status, color, disability, pregnancy or parenthood, origin, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
