Senior Developer (m/f/d) for AI-powered Legal Tech Applications in a 4-day week

BK Baumeister & Kollegen Verbraucherkanzlei is one of Germany's leading consumer law firms. We investigate the business practices of corporations, banks, and insurance companies to identify and legally analyze socially harmful behavior. If we conclude that legal action is effective and promising, we utilize the legal system to bring about changes in favor of consumers.

To achieve this, we combine years of legal expertise, investigative interest, and highly specialized software. With our dynamic team, we work with high motivation to modernize and simplify the market for legal services.

We are currently focusing on BigTech and the dangers associated with the unlimited use of our personal data. To expand our Legal Engineering team, we are seeking a highly qualified Senior Developer (m/f/d) at our Berlin location as soon as possible.

Your Way of Working:

• Experience or serious interest in AI-powered development (Claude Code)
• You are prepared to read, understand, secure, and further develop foreign, AI-generated code
• You can independently break down, structure, and prioritize task packages, and reliably document completed work
• You can realistically estimate effort and proactively communicate intermediate statuses
• You are willing and able to communicate with non-developers and to explain technical matters and risks understandably

Responsibilities

We are building something new: our own application landscape around our law firm's software with a research platform, workflow automation, document tools, and much more. So far, this has been created using AI tools and a great deal of legal expertise, but without technical leadership. Your role is therefore not administration, but design: you will take responsibility for what has only been partially built so far, bring concept and structure to it, and further develop it with your own ideas to advance our firm.

You will initially be the only software developer in the house, attached to the team of Legal Engineers (lawyers with self-acquired programming skills). An expansion of the development team in the future is possible, but not currently concretely planned.

Ideally – but not a requirement – you already have experience in the Legal Tech industry.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience in web development with JavaScript/TypeScript, both frontend (React) and backend (Node.js)
• Proficient in relational databases (PostgreSQL, ideally with Supabase)
• Experience with REST APIs (building your own and connecting to external ones)
• Everyday Git usage (Branches, Reviews, Deployments) and experience with cloud deployments (e.g., Vercel) as well as self-hosted Node services
• Experience with integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic/OpenAI) or the willingness to quickly acquire this skill
• Fluent German, as you will be dealing with legal end-users
• Ability to understand existing code without documentation and to subsequently add tests, documentation, and structure

Desirable, but not a requirement:

• Experience with workflow engines (BPMN/Camunda)
• PDF processing/OCR
• Legal Tech experience or interest in legal processes
