Senior Electrical Engineering Engineer

The Challenge 

As a Senior Electrical Engineering Engineer within Life Sciences, you will play a key role in the design of complex and technically productive facilities, such as laboratories. You will translate client requirements into reliable, sustainable, and future-proof electrical engineering installations, from power supply to communication and security systems.

From the concept phase, you will contribute to technical solutions that meet the strictest standards. You will work closely with other disciplines in multidisciplinary project teams and monitor the quality and coherence within the design. Thanks to your experience, you will intervene where necessary and support colleagues in their development. In the role of Senior Engineer, you will also take full design responsibility and act as a point of contact for both the client and the design team.

Your responsibilities include:

• Contributing to the early design and concept phase of projects, such as laboratories or production facilities.

• Developing electrical engineering installations in the areas of power supply, lighting, fire safety, low-voltage, security, and communication systems, among others.

• Creating cable and lighting calculations using specialized software.

• Aligning and coordinating design work with the design lead and other disciplines.

• Supporting the design lead and project manager in communication with clients and partners.

This is where 

• We have worked on the development and design of a sustainable and modern building for the Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON), which develops measuring instruments for satellites. SRON moved to the Leiden BioScience Park and had high demands for the new building in terms of sustainability, cleanrooms, and installation technology. As a research institute dedicated to studying the Earth's atmosphere, SRON considered it important to minimize the impact on nature and the environment. Therefore, Deerns chose heat pumps in the design for heating and cooling the building, and solar panels were installed on the roof. Furthermore, the building received the BREEAM-NL certificate Excellent.

• We have worked on the development of the new, sustainable DSM Lab 6 in Delft, where Deerns was responsible for all technical installations, electrical systems, IT infrastructure, security, mechanical systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), transport, and utility systems. During the design phase, technical and financial feasibility were also thoroughly checked. Based on the incidence of sunlight in the building, the energy performance requirements, and the strict demands for indoor temperature, Deerns designed a façade that is 25% closed. This ensures a naturally cool indoor climate, saving energy on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

This is you

• You have at least a completed bachelor's degree (Hbo/Wo) in Electrical Engineering or another technical field.

• You have already gained some experience as an Electrical Engineering Engineer and are ready for the next step in your career.

• You have experience working on projects and are an excellent team player.

• You have excellent knowledge of the Dutch and English languages (both written and spoken).

• MS Office, Revit, BIM360, and other calculation programs hold no secrets for you.
