Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation)

Job Title: Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation) Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Hybrid (2 days onsite per fortnight dependent on business needs) Salary: Competitive (Commensurate with skills and experience) What you’ll be doing: Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the design and development processes for the assigned projects. Be responsible for the delivery of specific Engineering activities to meet project and functional requirements. Perform and/or review detailed design work packages, calculations and analysis of Electrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) systems, including: o Control Systems Design o Instrumentation and Measurement o System Architecture o Cable sizing and calculations o Electrical Equipment Selection and specification o Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design o Process Control Systems (PCS) design o Proficient in the use of design tools such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation Manage the configuration of EC&I documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications. Support and influence Engineering decisions, processes, and standards, ensuring that all work is completed to the required standards. Liaise with other engineering disciplines to ensure an integrated design. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including project management, clients, and suppliers. Conduct technical investigations, troubleshooting, and problem-solving to identify and resolve issues. Mentor and coach junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support. Undertake site surveys, inspections, and commissioning activities as required. What we are looking for: Essential: Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Extensive experience in the design, engineering, and commissioning of EC&I systems within a relevant industry. Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE, etc.). Experience in the design and implementation of safety-critical systems. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable: Chartered Engineer status. Experience with specific EC&I design software (e.g., EPLAN, SmartPlant Instrumentation). Experience working with nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
