Senior Electrical Engineer

As a Senior Electrical Engineer Datacenters at Deerns, you will work on high-tech, scalable, and energy-efficient facilities that keep the digital world running. You will design the electrical systems that ensure maximum reliability, safety, and continuity, precisely what the data center sector demands. 

The Challenge 

As a Senior Electrical Engineer within our Datacenter department, you are responsible for the design, engineering, and technical coordination of complex electrical installations. Think of medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution boards, UPS systems, generators, emergency power concepts, earthing & bonding, automation, security systems, energy generation, and power monitoring that must function reliably 24/7. 

From the initial concept phase, you will contribute to technical strategies and design choices that align with scalability, energy efficiency, availability standards (Tier III/IV), and increasingly strict sustainability objectives. You will work intensively with disciplines such as mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and security, and monitor the technical coherence of the integrated design. Thanks to your seniority, you will act as the technical point of contact for clients, design teams, and suppliers. You will make adjustments where necessary, guide junior and medior engineers, and actively contribute to knowledge development within the data center team. 

Your responsibilities include: 

• Designing electrical systems, including low and medium voltage, UPS installations, generators, security installations, cable infrastructure, and power monitoring. 

• Contributing to concept and design phases and translating client requirements into feasible, scalable E-concepts. 

• Coordinating design activities with other disciplines and monitoring planning, quality, and integrity. 

• Acting as the technical point of contact for clients, partners, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. 

• Guiding junior and medior engineers within projects and contributing to knowledge development in the team. 

• Supporting tender processes, cost estimations, risk assessments, and technical quality controls. 

What We Work On

We have contributed to the construction of various new data centers in locations including Milan and Amsterdam. We have provided support for the design of mechanical, electrical, and sanitary installations for construction. After the design of the mechanical, electrical, and sanitary installations, Deerns supervised the construction site to check the quality of the installations and acted as Commissioning Manager for the main contractor. Deerns also provided support during construction to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. LEED certification means a building is healthy, highly efficient, and delivers better environmental performance.

You will be part of a team of approximately 16 colleagues, within a broader organization where you will have over 750 colleagues in various sectors. The Data Center team is a close-knit team consisting of project managers, consultants, mechanical, and electrical engineers. The culture is open, knowledge-driven, and focused on collaboration and enjoyment of work. Moreover, you will work in a close-knit, integrated project team where everyone's knowledge and expertise is optimally utilized. This not only ensures strong collaboration but also personal growth. The Datacenters unit primarily works for Colocation providers, banks, and large companies, both in the Netherlands and internationally. This ensures that you work on diverse projects and no day is the same. Additionally, you will regularly collaborate with our units in England, Spain, and Brazil, making you part of a strong international network.

This is You 

• A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field. 

• At least 5 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in complex building-related installations; experience in data centers or mission-critical environments is a strong pré. 

• Experience with multidisciplinary project environments. 

• Excellent command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written. 

• Experience with MS Office, Revit, BIM360, and relevant E-tools (such as cable calculations, selectivity studies, load flow, and short-circuit calculations). 

• Strong analytical skills, technical curiosity, and the ability to switch between details and the overall picture. 

• Strong communication skills and comfort in a role where technology, quality, and client contact converge.
