Job description

What it's about

MAIA is an AI platform for businesses. With MAIA, teams can search their internal data and anchor agents deep within their processes. We help companies implement AI not just in individual departments, but across the entire organization.

Technically, this means: We are building a GenAI application with our own agent systems, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows, connecting to our clients' external systems and analyzing their data. We use the best available models, operated in the EU, and make them reliable for demanding work with large, complex datasets.

Numerous industrial companies have been working intensively with MAIA for years. After our successful 2026 funding round, we are now bringing MAIA to a broader market. MAIA has been developed in Leipzig since 2021.

What you will do with us

As our first dedicated DevOps person, you will be responsible for the infrastructure and operation of MAIA and will further develop our existing platform for the next growth phase. The role thrives on close coordination with the engineering team.

Here's what you can work on:

  • Platform and Deployments. The majority of our infrastructure runs at Hetzner, on dedicated servers and cloud VMs. You will operate these self-administered Linux systems and additionally connect services from AWS, Azure, and GCP, primarily for AI services. With Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and proven rollbacks, you will make changes safely and reproducibly.

  • PostgreSQL in Operation. You will be responsible for performance, connection pooling, and capacity, and will ensure reliable data restoration with tested backups and restores.

  • Observability. You will further develop our self-operated observability stack, connecting metrics, logs, and traces, and establish alerting that leads to concrete actions.

  • Security and Compliance. You will consistently implement Least Privilege, Secrets Management, Vulnerability Scanning, and Patch Management. For our ongoing ISO 27001 initiative, you will automate auditable evidence.

What we are looking for

  • Self-operated Systems. You have operated productive SaaS systems on self-administered Linux servers. Experience exclusively with fully managed cloud services is not sufficient for this role. Experience with Hetzner is a plus.

  • Containers and Automation. You securely use Docker and Docker Compose in production, as well as reverse proxies or API gateways like Traefik or Kong. You manage infrastructure with Terraform, NixOS, or comparable tools, and build CI/CD with GitHub Actions or similar systems.

  • PostgreSQL in Production. You have set up and tested backups and restores yourself. Performance analysis and connection pooling are familiar to you.

  • Observability and Security. You have operated an observability stack yourself, for example, with Grafana, Loki, and Prometheus. You implement security in your daily work, from permissions and secrets to security updates.

  • Understanding of AI Systems. You know the basics of RAG systems and their typical operational failure points. You can assess the trade-offs between latency, throughput, cost, and operational effort in LLM serving. You follow new models and providers out of personal interest.

  • Independent and Meticulous. You drive topics forward independently, investigate unknown systems until you understand them, and prioritize based on risk and impact. You keep complexity manageable, and you bring improvements all the way to ongoing operation.

  • Work agentically. Coding Agents are part of your daily routine, including for infrastructure. You critically review their results, especially before anything goes into production.

  • Communicate clearly. You remain calm and clear even during disruptions. You explain technical contexts understandably, even to people without a technical background. You speak German and English very confidently.

The role is a senior role without personnel responsibility.

Working at MAIA

We are united by a common goal: to build a really good product. Everyone takes responsibility for their own area. We enjoy our work and are proud of what our customers achieve with MAIA. Processes are lean, and decisions are made quickly. In the engineering team, we critically question how we develop and continuously improve our processes, especially in agentic development.

We enjoy working together in our office, centrally located between the city center and the zoo, and cook together almost every day. We are on-site at least three days a week; for the remaining days, you work wherever you want. You decide when your day starts.

  • Access to current frontier models and coding agents

  • Support for further training that aligns with your professional development

  • Access to a Wellpass membership

Compensation

The annual gross salary is between €80,000 and €90,000. We will discuss where you fall within this range at the latest after the technical interview. Additionally, there is a virtual participation through our VSOP.

Application and Next Steps

You do not need a cover letter. Send us your CV and answer one question in a few sentences of your own: Why do you want to help shape MAIA?

We work with AI every day. However, for this answer, your own perspective counts. Please write it yourself, feel free to keep it short and without fine-tuning.

If it fits, a 30-minute get-to-know-you call, a 90-minute technical interview, and a final discussion with management will follow. After each step, you will usually hear from us within two working days. Our goal is a decision in about three weeks.

We look forward to your application.
