Job Summary:
The Senior Data Engineer role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and architectures to support service innovation, program review, and digital transformation projects. The role requires strong data engineering practices, analytical skills, and the ability to derive actionable insights from data. The Data Engineer will work as part of cross-functional teams, collaborating on activities such as field research, backlog refinement, and sprint execution. Location:Alberta, Canada Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines on-premises and in the cloud (Azure, GCP, AWS) to ingest, transform, and store large datasets.
- Create and optimize dimensional models (star/snowflake) to improve query performance and reporting.
- Integrate data from SQL, NoSQL, APIs, and files while maintaining accuracy and completeness.
- Improve ETL/ELT processes for efficiency and scalability.
- Build and maintain end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines with SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
- Automate deployment, testing, and monitoring of ETL workflows through CI/CD pipelines.
- Manage data lakes and warehouses with proper governance.
- Partner with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
- Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies using statistical methods, DAX, Python, and R.
- Develop interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI using DAX.
- Build predictive or descriptive models using statistical, Python, or R-based machine learning methods.
- Present findings to non-technical audiences in clear, actionable terms.
- Deliver analytics solutions iteratively in an Agile environment.
- Provide data-driven evidence to guide corporate priorities. Required Skills & Certifications:
- Strong foundation in data engineering practices.
- Analytical skills to derive actionable insights from data.
- Experience with SQL, NoSQL, APIs, and file integration.
- Experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools such as SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
- Experience with data modeling (star/snowflake).
- Experience with data lakes and warehouses.
- Experience with data analysis using statistical methods, DAX, Python, and R.
- Experience with Power BI for creating dashboards and reports. Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for ETL workflows.
