Job description

About us:

HyPlus is your companion in digital transformation. Together with our clients, we develop their digital DNA in a structured, partnership-based manner with a clear focus on sustainable added value. We support companies from requirements analysis through architecture, software development, and implementation to operation. With around 800 colleagues in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, and India, we combine technological excellence with industry expertise in automotive, retail, banking & insurance, and the public sector.

We welcome applicants who are already working with modern AI-powered development tools and generative AI, or who are interested in integrating them meaningfully into their daily work. We see the reflective use of AI as a valuable addition to technical know-how and independent thinking.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical design of data platforms at our clients, from architectural decisions to implementation and stable operation. You will be the technical point of contact in projects, make forward-thinking technology decisions, and share your knowledge within the team.

  • Conception, setup, and further development of scalable data platforms and architectures (e.g., Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Mesh) in cloud, hybrid, and on-premise environments

  • Responsibility for architectural and technology decisions throughout the entire lifecycle of data solutions – with a focus on scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness

  • Development of performant data models (e.g., dimensional modeling, Data Vault, normal forms) as well as reusable semantic and reporting layers

  • Design and operation of robust ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and streaming processing (e.g., with Python, SQL, Spark, dbt, Airflow, Kafka)

  • Connection and harmonization of heterogeneous source systems, such as ERP/SAP landscapes, APIs, or event streams

  • Performance and cost optimization of data models, queries, and platform workloads (e.g., analysis of execution plans, tuning of warehouse and cluster resources)

  • Establishment of data quality, governance, and observability – from validation and reconciliation frameworks to monitoring and data lineage to security and compliance requirements

  • Contribution to the provision of AI-capable data products for analytics and AI use cases, including definition of data contracts and interfaces to AI and backend teams (e.g., for feature engineering, retrieval, and agentic AI approaches)

  • Use of AI-powered tools and generative AI to support development, documentation, testing, and quality assurance

  • Automation of deployments and further development of DataOps and CI/CD processes

  • Support clients with architectural, technological, and implementation questions, as well as clear communication of complex technical content – including in workshops and pre-sales situations

  • Technical guidance and mentoring of junior and mid-level colleagues, conducting code and architecture reviews

  • Contribution to effort estimations and solution sketches

  • Completed degree in IT or a STEM-related field, or equivalent qualification

  • >5 years of practical experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or building modern data platforms, including experience in a responsible role in project or consulting environments

  • Very good knowledge of SQL and confident handling of at least one other language in the data domain (e.g., Python, Scala, or Java)

  • Solid experience with at least one common cloud or data platform (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric) and with tools of the Modern Data Stack (e.g., dbt, Airflow)

  • Deep understanding of data modeling, data warehouse and lakehouse architectures, as well as ETL/ELT and streaming methods

  • Experience in data quality, governance, monitoring/observability, and security and compliance requirements

  • Proficient in version control (Git), CI/CD, and automated testing

  • Experience in the reflective use of AI-powered development tools and generative AI in an engineering context

  • Experience with agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)

  • Strong communication skills, self-responsibility, and enjoyment in sharing knowledge with the team

  • German language skills at C1/C2 level

  • English language skills at B2 level

  • Residency in Germany, ideally near Ratingen/Frankfurt

Do you feel professionally confident even with less experience and believe you can do it?

Then apply anyway! We look forward to getting to know you.

    Nice to have:

  • Experience with ERP data, especially SAP (e.g., Purchasing/MM, Logistics, Finance) or other core enterprise systems

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and containerized environments (e.g., Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Proven experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and cost control of productive data platforms

  • Experience in regulated or security-critical environments, as well as with sovereign cloud or open-source platform ecosystems

  • Experience with analytics and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Qlik, Tableau) and semantic layers

  • Relevant cloud or data certifications (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, AWS)

  • Experience in pre-sales, effort estimation, and proposal preparation

What awaits you:

  • Attractive remuneration & benefits – competitive salary and health budget, team offsites, modern tech equipment, mobility package, company bike, etc.

  • Career perspective – clearly defined development opportunities & annual reviews

  • Further development – continuous training, certifications, and access to industry events

  • Flexibility – hybrid/remote model, flexible working hours

  • Company culture – collegial, low-politics environment where your ideas and results count

Equal Opportunity:

HyPlus is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are actively committed to an inclusive work environment where all employees feel welcome and valued.
