We are looking for a Senior Cloud Native Architect for a Proof of Concept (PoC) project to realize an internal Kubernetes platform. The goal of the project is to conceptualize and prototype functionalities for providing operational data to external recipients, with architecture-, security- and integration aspects taking precedence for high-availability 24/7-critical applications.

Your tasks

• Developing a common understanding of the objectives, scope and expected results of the reference project

• Analyzing the framework conditions for the internal cloud-native Kubernetes platform in terms of development, operation, security and integration

• Conceptualizing a platform-conformable reference architecture for exchanging operational data between transmission network operators

• Designing the solution design for high-scaling data exchange with up to approximately 100,000 information units per second

• Considering requirements for high availability, scalability, monitorability (monitoring) and IT security for critical KRITIS applications

• Defining suitable integration patterns for data exchange between internal systems, platforms and external partners

• Conceptualizing and prototyping the data provision from existing sources

• Establishing the forwarding and distribution of data via event-based mechanisms such as Apache Kafka

• Designing an architecture for receiving, processing and distributing sensor data

• Technical implementation of key functionalities and development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) as a reference implementation

• Developing a pragmatic, iterative approach model to identify necessary roles and competencies

• Comprehensive documentation of the chosen architecture, design decisions and technical implementation approaches, including guidelines

Must-Requirements

• Long-standing experience in technical overall responsibility for .net- and Java-based applications in complex, distributed and high-scaling system landscapes

• Outstanding architectural expertise in conceptualizing, evaluating and controlling scalable, high-availability and secure application and data architectures

• Expertise in big-data processing, particularly in designing and using frameworks such as Apache Spark (batch and streaming processing)

• Experience with processing very large data volumes (high-throughput/high-velocity), including performance optimization, resource management and fault tolerance

• Fundamentally understanding event-driven architectures, including the combination of streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka) with big-data processing frameworks

• Safe handling of cloud-based and platform-native operating models, including containerized big-data workloads on platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP

• German language skills at C2 level and English language skills at C1 level

Can-Requirements

• Experience in designing integrated data pipelines, from data input (e.g. sensors, files, streams) to processing and enrichment to distribution

• Experience in safely designing data processing solutions for 24/7 KRITIS operation, including resilience, restart concepts and monitoring

• Proven responsibility for non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, data consistency, latency and operational security

• Ability to translate complex technical requirements into robust, future-proof data and application architectures

• Strong communication and moderation skills to transparently represent architectural decisions, technical risks and efforts to management and departments

• Proven experience in structured documentation of architecture and technology decisions, particularly for governance, audit and compliance purposes

• Proven SÜG (Ü2) review

The project location is Berlin, with the performance delivery being 95% remote and 5% on-site.
