Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager

Our client is a long-established land development and civil engineering consultancy with a strong presence across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.

For decades, they have delivered high-quality surveying, civil engineering, planning, and infrastructure solutions across residential, commercial, and subdivision projects.

Due to sustained growth and a strong forward workload, they are now looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join their high-performing team. This role can be based in either Tauranga or Hamilton.

About the Role

This senior position combines technical leadership, project management, and client engagement. You will guide land development and civil infrastructure projects from concept through to completion while supporting internal capability and maintaining strong client relationships. The role offers autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of the civil engineering team.

Key Responsibilities Project & Technical Delivery

• Lead civil engineering and land development projects through design, consenting, tendering, and construction
• Manage project programmes, budgets, and deliverables
• Produce and review civil engineering design including:
  • 3 Waters
  • Earthworks
  • Roading and general infrastructure
• Provide MSQA, quality assurance, and technical verification
• Contribute to renewable energy project design where required

Leadership & Client Management

• Maintain trusted, long-term client relationships
• Mentor junior engineers and support internal capability growth
• Liaise with planners, surveyors, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams

Contract & Construction Management

• Lead tender preparation and contract administration
• Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications
• Manage contractors and resolve on-site issues

Skills & Experience Required Essential

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (NZ preferred)
• 8–10+ years’ experience in civil engineering, land development, or infrastructure
• Strong Civil 3D capability
• Proven success delivering land development and multidisciplinary civil projects
• Excellent project management and client-facing skills
• Strong understanding of NZ consenting processes and standards

Highly Advantageous

• CPEng (or working toward it)
• Experience on complex or high-value developments
• Contract management experience (NZS 3910 or similar)
• Site engineering or construction monitoring experience
