Location: Darmstadt + remote | Start: Flexible (Jan–Apr)

Contract: 12 months+

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior BMS Technical Lead with a strong development mindset to support a large-scale battery system program.
This position requires deep technical understanding of Battery Management Systems, combined with strong ability to guide teams, conduct technical reviews, and ensure system stability, performance, and design quality.

Tasks

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical direction to development teams (Germany, Sweden, India)
  • Review architecture, BMS functions, and implementation details
  • Support code reviews (embedded C, Simulink, Autosar-based SWCs)
  • Identify design flaws, memory issues, and performance bottlenecks
  • Challenge technical decisions and ensure best engineering practices
  • Assess battery behavior and system reactions under various conditions
  • Ensure technical readiness before customer delivery

BMS Expertise

  • Strong understanding of: SOC / SOH / SOE estimation
  • Balancing strategies
  • Fault detection, DTC logic, diagnostics
  • Battery voltage behavior, temperature effects, aging
  • HV contactor control, safety concepts
  • Ability to understand and critique BMS algorithms, even without full-time coding

System & Delivery Support

  • Contribute to release planning, requirement interpretation, risk analysis
  • Support stability improvements of current BMS product
  • Prepare the team for upcoming customer reviews and validations

Team & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Align development activities across teams
  • Work closely with requirement managers and architects
  • Communicate effectively with customers during escalation or clarification
  • Coach junior engineers and offshore team members

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years in BMS development, HV battery systems, or battery software
  • Deep understanding of battery system behavior under various operating conditions
  • Ability to read and review embedded C / Autosar code
  • Experience identifying memory issues, stability gaps, and design flaws
  • Strong diagnostic and root-cause analysis skills
  • Experience working with CANoe, INCA, dSPACE, or similar environments
  • Experience collaborating with offshore development teams
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-facing skills

Strong Plus

  • Experience with Autosar Classic
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink / TargetLink
  • ISO 26262 exposure
  • Previous experience in commercial vehicle or high-energy battery programs

Languages

  • English (fluent) – Must
  • German or Swedish – Advantage
