The Netherlands is helping Ukraine defend itself against the large-scale Russian war of aggression. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, DGB/DIA has been coordinating the political-administrative efforts regarding military support to Ukraine. This includes everything from supporting political accountability processes (writing parliamentary letters, preparing debates) and advising on relevant political and military developments, to co-shaping the long-term policy of support for Ukraine. DIA, together with Project Directorate-Ukraine (PD-OEK) among others, advises the military, administrative, and political leadership to enable them to make informed and balanced decisions. The team acts as a connecting link between various directorates and works closely with other ministries and international partners.
In your role, you will work in a close-knit team on the intensive military support that the Netherlands provides to Ukraine. The Netherlands does this bilaterally, multilaterally, and in ad hoc arrangements. Based on (inter)national interests, you will define the contours of Dutch security support to Ukraine. You will actively follow relevant developments and advise the administrative and political leadership on their significance. You will focus on the strategic developments of the war. You think beyond the current events and look beyond the here and now. You build your own network every day, both internally and internationally - and you are strong in writing.
Furthermore, you will support the coordinating policy officer Ukraine in identifying and analyzing developments, areas of concern, and bottlenecks, and you will act as a sounding board for operational processes.
Do you want to work at the heart of current affairs and at the intersection of politics and security? Collaborate with Foreign Affairs and other partners to make Europe safer? Work with a motivated, ambitious, and warm team at the Directorate-General for International Affairs? Then this position is for you.

The Ministry of Defence strongly emphasizes personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this. In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB consists of money (16.33% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the IKB, you make choices that suit you and can arrange part of your employment conditions yourself. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out when you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave or spend it on tax-friendly goals.
We also believe it is important that you can combine working at Defence with your private life. Various leave arrangements (e.g., 75% paid parental leave) and flexible working hours contribute to a good balance. It is also possible to (temporarily) reduce your working hours by a few hours per week and build up extra IKB hours. In addition to a pension scheme with ABP, you will receive a monthly commuting allowance or, under favorable conditions, you can opt for a public transport subscription with unlimited travel throughout the Netherlands. If you only use the public transport subscription for commuting, you do not have to pay a contribution for it.
Special Provisions
- A security investigation is part of the selection procedure; for this, Dutch nationality or a combined permit for residence and work (GVVA) is required.
- An assessment may be part of the selection procedure.
- Your application documents will be destroyed no later than three months after the completion of the selection procedure.
- The vacancy is published both internally and externally within Defence. Potential internal candidates will be considered first in the selection procedure before the selection is extended to external candidates.
- The Ministry of Defence is committed to employing staff who fall under the target group of the Job Placement Act. If you fall into this target group and are registered in the target groups register, we also invite you to apply! Together with you, we will explore if and how you can potentially fulfill this role.

The code of conduct forms the basis of what Defence understands by integrity. As an organization, we consider it important that new employees are aware of the Defence Code of Conduct.
