(Senior) Backend Engineer - idealo Intelligence (m|w|d)

As a (Senior) Backend Engineer in the idealo Intelligence team, you will develop the technical foundation to better understand our users and provide data-based marketing solutions to our retailers. Together with a newly forming team, you will build a modern data platform and actively shape the architecture, systems, and processes from the very beginning.

The position is available in full-time or part-time.

Your Responsibilities

• You will develop and operate backend services and data workflows for processing, anonymizing, and enriching large amounts of data.

• You will take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of your services – from architecture and implementation to production operation.

• You will develop Java and Spring Boot microservices and work with event-driven architectures and cloud-native technologies on AWS.

• You will ensure high software quality through automated tests, code reviews, and observability.

• You will make sensible use of AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and code quality.

• You will work closely with product and engineering teams and share your knowledge through pair programming, reviews, and documentation.

What You Bring

Must-have

• Several years of experience in backend or platform development with Java.

• Experience with Spring Boot or comparable frameworks.

• Experience with cloud-native applications and containerized deployments (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, or Docker).

• Experience with event-driven architectures, for example Kafka.

• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis.

• You respectfully question assumptions and use data and understandable arguments to discuss ideas. As soon as a decision has been made, you support it bindingly to ensure alignment and momentum in the team.

• Good English skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with data pipelines, PySpark, or Apache Airflow.

• Experience in operating production systems.

• German language skills.
