What it's about

MAIA is an AI platform for businesses. With MAIA, teams can search their internal data and deeply embed agents into their processes. We help companies implement AI not just in individual departments, but across the entire organization.

Technically, this means: We are building a GenAI application with proprietary agent systems, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows, connecting to our clients' external systems and analyzing their data. We use the best available models, operated in the EU, and make them reliable for demanding work with large, complex datasets.

Numerous industrial companies have been working intensively with MAIA for years. After our successful funding round in 2026, we are now bringing MAIA to a broader audience. MAIA has been developed in Leipzig since 2021.

What you will do with us

As an AI Engineer, you will further develop MAIA and have a say from the beginning in how we solve problems.

What you can work on:

• From Concept to Feature. Together with product management, you will refine rough concepts and be responsible for features from prototype to further development based on feedback and usage data.

• Chat and Agents. You will shape how people work with MAIA: asking questions, providing context, and enabling agents to complete multi-stage tasks – with traceable progress and verifiable results.

• Unlock Corporate Knowledge. You will connect external systems and make knowledge from different file formats usable. MAIA will find the right information, provide answers with sources, and adhere to existing access rights.

• Models and Quality. You will integrate new language models and compare their quality, cost, and speed. With Evals, you will identify errors and systematically improve answers and agents.

• Secure, Fast, and Stable. You will build isolated environments for executing code and tools and improve response times and data processing so that MAIA runs reliably even with large knowledge bases.

What we are looking for

• Solid Software Engineering. You have built, delivered, and operated backend systems in production for an extended period. Architecture, API design, data modeling, and asynchronous processing are familiar to you. You can spot weak architecture even if a coding agent wrote it.

• Proficient in at least one of our languages. TypeScript, Python, or Go, preferably one of the statically typed ones. You don't need to know all three. You will learn the others.

• At home in the LLM ecosystem. You have built real applications with LLMs, professionally or in complex personal projects. You know RAG, embeddings, vector search, and tool calling from practice, including where they fail. You explore new models and frameworks on your own initiative, distinguishing substance from hype. Production experience with LLM systems is a big plus.

• Measure instead of guessing. You know how to test and evaluate systems that don't always answer the same question in the same way. You build the simplest solution that solves the problem. Further retrieval stages, prompt chains, or abstractions are only added when measurements justify them.

• Product Thinking. You think about the person who needs to finalize a quote or clarify a technical question under time pressure using MAIA. You enjoy getting involved early in product management concepts, asking the right questions, and contributing your own solution ideas, even if not everything is decided yet.

• Work agentically. Coding agents are part of your daily routine. You write plans that others can review and build upon, critically evaluate their results, and know where they help and where they don't.

• Consider security. Our clients entrust us with their internal knowledge. Multi-tenancy, access rights, and secure development are a given for you.

• Communicate clearly. You explain technical contexts understandably, even to product management, customer success, and sales. You are highly proficient in German and equally proficient in English.

The role does not involve personnel responsibility. Whether you start as an AI Engineer or Senior AI Engineer will be discussed openly with you at the latest after the technical interview.

We enjoy working together in our office, centrally located between the city center and the zoo, and we cook together almost every day. We are on-site at least three days a week; on the other days, you work wherever you like. You decide when your day begins.

Compensation

The annual gross salary ranges from €75,000 to €95,000. Your position within this range depends on your level. We will discuss this further at the latest after the technical interview. Additionally, there is virtual equity participation through our VSOP.
