Senior AI Engineer

You set up AI projects from the content and lead them to a satisfied customer.

Building a strong model is one thing. Showing a customer what AI can do for them, devising the right solution, and getting it reliably into production: that is your craft.

As a Senior AI Engineer, you combine depth in machine learning and MLOps with depth in generative AI, LLMs, and agents. You are involved from the first customer conversation and are ultimately responsible for delivery as the delivery lead.

What will you do?

• Setting up new projects: from the first conversation to the proposal, with support from sales. You inspire the customer from the content, devise the solution, and create a solid project plan.

• Leading the delivery: as a delivery lead, you manage the project, provide daily leadership for execution, and manage stakeholders.

• Making technical choices and building along: you design the architecture of data, ML, and agent systems, and build yourself. With an FDE in the team, you collaborate on the agentic design.

• Into production and keeping it running: MLOps, monitoring, security, and maintainability are not secondary to you.

• Lifting the team: you coach colleagues and help develop standards.

Projects that go beyond the model

We focus on retail and e-commerce, finance, and utilities. Think of:

• Forecasts that planners dare to steer by, from retail assortment to grid load.

• Intelligent document processing, such as KYC files or inspection reports, with traceable sources.

• Agents that prepare work in customer service and back office, with evals and guardrails.

• Computer vision, such as in the fitness industry, where we recognize unsafe situations in unmanned 24/7 locations.

The challenge lies not only in the model but also in reliability, integration, and practical operation.

What do you bring?

• Depth in ML engineering and MLOps, and in GenAI, LLMs, and agents, with solutions you have put into production and maintained yourself.

• You design the architecture of data, ML, and agent systems, with an eye for evals, monitoring, security, and the EU AI Act.

• Strong in Python and SQL, and hands-on with at least one cloud (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and a data platform such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Fabric.

• Experience with business development and as a delivery lead or project manager.

• You work daily with coding agents and critically assess what they deliver.

• You speak and write fluent Dutch and English.

What this is NOT

• Not individual secondment. You work on projects on behalf of adesso, with a team behind you.

• Not a notebook graveyard. A model is only finished when it is running in production and being used.

• Not GenAI because it can. Sometimes a classic model is better, sometimes an LLM; you choose what fits.

• Not on-call work. You think along from the customer's request, not only when the design is already fixed.

The team

You become part of our AI Engineering team: AI engineering consultants in two roles. The Forward Deployed AI Engineer (FDE) owns the customer problem and designs the solution, including the agentic architecture. The AI Engineer delves into construction, data, MLOps, and scale, and thinks along from the customer's request about the right approach.

You will have the space to shape your own work, but you are never solely responsible for all specialisms.

• €5,850–€7,150 gross per month based on 40 hours
