Salary: $96,307 - $113,303 + superannuation

The role | Te tūnga 
As Kaitohutohu Matua | Senior Advisor - Te Ao Māori, you will play a key role in helping the organisation strengthen how we work with and for Māori. You’ll help enhance the quality of information for and about Māori and support its meaningful use and understanding within Māori communities.
Working closely with teams across the Statistical Delivery Branches, you’ll provide both strategic and operational advice to increase the value and accessibility of data through stronger Māori participation in surveys. You’ll also coach, mentor and build the capability of advisors across the group to strengthen our Te Ao Māori practice and understanding.
What We’re Looking For | Ko wai koe
We’re looking for someone who brings credibility, care, and influence to their mahi. You will bring most of the following:

* A working knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and confidence engaging respectfully in Māori communities and settings
* Established connections to iwi, hapū, whānau, and Māori organisations, with insight into Māori aspirations, challenges, and priorities
* The mana and credibility to influence others and lead improved Māori responsiveness and Māori-focused outcomes
* Demonstrated ability to work in partnership, grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi
* Experience supporting the development or implementation of programmes, frameworks, or models that enhance responsiveness to Māori
* Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a commitment to growing others
* An understanding of Māori data sovereignty principles, including alignment with the Data Iwi Leaders Group (DILG) and related frameworks
* A genuine commitment to deepening your understanding of Te Ao Māori, including te reo Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori, and supporting others to do the same.

Te reo Māori
Fluency in te reo Māori is not required (though it is valued). You will be expected to actively apply your knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori in your work and continue developing your capability. Confidence engaging in Māori communities and settings is essential.

We value transferable skills and recognise that relevant experience may come from a range of contexts, including outside formal employment.
You don’t need to be an expert in all areas already, but you do need to be committed to learning, equity, and Te Tiriti-based practice, and willing to grow alongside us.
