Job description
Role: Behaviour Teaching Assistant
Location: Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire
Pay Rate: £90 – £105 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
GSL Education is recruiting a dedicated and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex behaviour.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in SEN, care, youth work, or behaviour support who are looking to make a meaningful impact in a specialist education setting.
The SettingThe provision supports young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or social needs. The school focuses on consistency, positive behaviour approaches, and strong staff–pupil relationships to help students re-engage with learning.
Your Responsibilities as SEMH Teaching Assistant:-
Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support

Implement behaviour management strategies and support emotional regulation

Assist teaching staff with personalised learning activities

Support pupils during transitions and throughout the school day

Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and social development

Work in line with EHCPs, behaviour plans, and safeguarding policies

Communicate effectively with teachers and pastoral teams

Previous experience supporting challenging behaviour, SEMH, or SEN pupils

A calm, consistent, and resilient approach

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Knowledge of safeguarding and behaviour support strategies

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one through GSL Education)
