Scientific Software Engineer (EP-SFT-2025-206-LD)

Job Description Introduction Within the Experimental Physics Department (EP), in the Software Development for Experiment Group (SFT), you will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and validating different software stacks to be used to build software ecosystems for physics experiments. You will be involved in an ongoing programme aimed at extending commonality of software ecosystems, and work on new developments to improve computing performance. You will join the Stacks team, responsible for the development and maintenance of software tools for various experimental projects. Your tasks will include: • Developing and maintaining software stacks using programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or MATLAB. • Validating software stacks against specific requirements and testing them in different environments. • Collaborating with other team members to identify and resolve issues related to software development and maintenance. • Participating in the design and implementation of new software tools and features. • Providing technical support for experimental projects, including debugging and troubleshooting software-related problems. • Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in software engineering and applying this knowledge to improve software quality and performance. Requirements: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Physics, or a related field. • Strong programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, C++, Java, or MATLAB. • Experience with software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum. • Knowledge of software testing and validation techniques. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
