What the role is The role encompasses comprehensive scientific leadership within a research and public health environment, combining strategic oversight with hands‑on innovation. This position requires driving critical surveillance initiatives and outbreak response efforts whilst simultaneously advancing the field through the development of cutting‑edge diagnostic technologies and optimised laboratory methodologies. The role demands strong leadership capabilities to guide scientific teams, foster collaboration, and ensure effective communication among stakeholders. Key responsibilities include: • Developing and implementing comprehensive research strategies in consultation with senior management and stakeholders; • Providing expert scientific guidance and oversight to research projects and initiatives; • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative diagnostic technologies and optimised laboratory methodologies; • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards; • Mentoring and guiding junior scientists and researchers; • Staying abreast of the latest developments in the field and applying this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement. What we are looking for The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced scientific professional with a strong track record of delivering innovative solutions and driving positive change. Key qualifications include: • A PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline; • At least 5 years of experience in a research or scientific leadership role; • Proven expertise in diagnostic technologies, laboratory methodologies, and surveillance initiatives; • Strong leadership and communication skills; • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines; • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
