Safety Officer (REF: IVP- PRO-2607)

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this mine of the future. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development. The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all activities on site are conducted in a safe manner, with due regard to the health and well-being of employees, contractors and visitors. The incumbent will be expected to: * Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions; * Develop, implement and maintain safety policies, procedures and training programs; * Investigate incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and implementing measures to prevent recurrence; * Provide guidance and support to employees on site to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies; * Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement effective risk management strategies; * Maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities and incidents; * Ensure that all employees are aware of their responsibilities in relation to health, safety and environmental matters. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, with at least 5 years' experience in a similar role. A recognized certification in OH&S (e.g. NEBOSH) would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be expected to work independently, as well as part of a team, and must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
