Job description

uNaice is a pioneer in the field of automated content production and automated data preparation and enrichment.

We develop for customers who are on the verge of digitalization. Our customers include top players in e-commerce such as adidas, Wago, TUI, C&A, as well as publishers like Neue Westfälische Zeitung, Volksstimme, and especially international manufacturers with very large amounts of data and a need for international content.

Our work enables industry pioneers to normalize, smooth, structure, and enrich data and/or content automatically, all fully automatically. In short: we can turn texts into datasets with attributes and attribute values, or create and publish unique, high-converting, and SEO-relevant product descriptions and category pages from data at the push of a button. And this in 110 languages.

- You speak and write A1-level German

Tasks

About the new project and our new software.

We are developing a prototype based on a four-legged robot platform (Unitree Go2 with gripper arm) that recognizes and autonomously removes weeds in a test garden using AI image recognition. The initial goal is a functioning proof of concept, and long-term a reliable system for continuous use.

Tasks

- Setup and control of the robot platform (Unitree SDK, ROS/ROS2)

- Integration and calibration of the gripper arm (kinematics, force control, precision gripping)

- Connection of a vision model for plant recognition (initially API-based/Zero-Shot, later potentially own trained model)

- Development of coordinate transformation camera → real-world coordinates → arm

- Building a data pipeline for image collection, labeling, and iterative model training

- Test runs in the garden, error analysis, continuous improvement

- Documentation of the system and results

Required Skills

Must-have requirements:

- Solid programming skills in Python (mandatory), ideally also C++

- Experience with ROS or ROS2 (Robot Operating System)

- Experience with Computer Vision / Machine Learning (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV)

- Experience with API integration of AI/vision models (e.g., multimodal LLM APIs)

- Basic understanding of robotics kinematics (coordinate transformations, inverse kinematics)

- Independent, iterative way of working (on-site hardware testing, not pure office coding)

Desirable:

- Practical experience with quadruped robots or robot manipulators (e.g., from studies/lab)

- Experience with sensor calibration (camera, depth sensor/stereo)

- Knowledge of dataset creation and labeling for ML training

- Experience with embedded systems / microcontrollers

- Initial experience with agricultural/horticultural automation is a plus, but not a prerequisite

Profile / Background

Suitable candidates typically come from:

- Computer Science (focus on Robotics, AI, or Machine Learning)

- Mechatronics (focus on Autonomous Systems/Robotics)

- Electrical Engineering / Automation Technology

Both graduates with a practical thesis in the field of robotics and experienced full-stack/ML developers with additional knowledge in robotics are welcome. Demonstrable practical experience (projects, robotics lab, competitions like RoboCup, own projects with ROS) is more important than the formal degree.

Work Style

- On-site work in the test garden required (not a purely remote project)

- Project-based, iterative, with weekly test runs

- Timeframe: initially 4 weeks for Proof of Concept, followed by ongoing further development

Qualification

Must-have requirements:

- Solid programming skills in Python (mandatory), ideally also C++

- Experience with ROS or ROS2 (Robot Operating System)

- Experience with Computer Vision / Machine Learning (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV)

Benefits

  • 50% Remote: You have a suitable office work environment. Working from your bedside or the beach is not our thing.
  • 50% in the test garden in Schloß-Holte Stukenbrock
  • Flexibility: You can generally manage your own time. However, your time management follows the availability of collaboration with colleagues
  • Career Prospects: With us, you have the opportunity to develop professionally and disciplinarily and gain valuable experience for your future career.

Remote does not mean unprofessional. We require a suitable workspace. Working "from your bedside" is not our thing.

We look forward to receiving your CV and a meaningful cover letter
