Rivers Operations & Projects Manager

Introduction Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of Council’s river control and drainage assets. You will oversee the delivery of asset management plans, maintenance programmes and capital works, ensuring our river, floodway, soil conservation and drainage systems continue to protect communities and support long‑term environmental resilience. Working closely with the Chief Rivers Engineer, you will lead a team of professionals to ensure effective project delivery, stakeholder engagement and community consultation. This role requires strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders. Key responsibilities include: • Developing and implementing asset management plans that align with Council’s strategic objectives • Leading and managing projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely and within budget delivery • Collaborating with internal stakeholders, including engineering teams, to ensure effective project delivery • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, including community groups, iwi and other key partners • Providing technical advice and guidance to Council staff on river control and drainage matters • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and standards • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing changes as required.
