We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region. The region’s rivers, lakes, wetlands, and coastal areas are all part of this work. Our role is to manage these natural resources effectively, ensuring they remain healthy and resilient for generations to come. This includes working with iwi, hapū, and the community to develop and implement plans that balance human needs with environmental protection. The rivers team at Environment Canterbury is responsible for managing the region’s rivers, including flood protection works, river restoration, and water quality monitoring. As a River Engineering Officer, you will be part of this team, working on projects that improve the health and resilience of our rivers. This role involves working closely with other teams within Environment Canterbury, as well as external stakeholders such as iwi, hapū, and the community. You will also have opportunities to work on your own projects, using your skills and expertise to make a positive impact on the environment. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to work effectively in a team, communicate complex information to non-technical audiences, and think creatively about environmental issues.
