About the Business

Dockside Waves on Dutton is a fish and chips takeaway business located at 16 Dutton St, Walkerston QLD 4751. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations of the business, including retail management, takeaway food service coordination, staff supervision, inventory control, supplier management and customer service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth business operations, maintaining food quality and service standards, managing employees, controlling operating costs and supporting the business's ongoing growth and profitability.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organise and oversee the daily operations of the fish and chips takeaway and retail business to ensure efficient and profitable performance.

Manage and supervise employees, allocate duties, prepare staff rosters and monitor staff performance.

Coordinate daily takeaway operations, including order processing, food preparation workflows, customer service and order fulfilment.

Oversee the preparation and service of fish, chips and other menu items to ensure consistent quality, portion control and timely service.

Monitor food preparation and service procedures to ensure compliance with applicable food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.

Maintain appropriate food storage, refrigeration, temperature monitoring, cleaning and sanitation procedures.

Monitor stock levels of seafood, potatoes, cooking oil, packaging materials, beverages and other food and retail supplies.

Coordinate purchasing, liaise with suppliers, negotiate prices where appropriate and ensure the timely delivery of quality ingredients and merchandise.

Implement effective inventory control procedures to minimise wastage, spoilage, stock shortages and unnecessary operating expenses.

Develop and implement strategies to increase sales, improve customer satisfaction and enhance business profitability.

Establish and review menu pricing, product pricing, promotional offers and sales initiatives in line with business objectives.

Oversee customer service activities, handle customer enquiries and complaints, and resolve service issues professionally.

Monitor daily sales, cash handling, electronic payments, point-of-sale transactions and end-of-day reconciliation procedures.

Prepare sales reports, monitor revenue and operating expenses, and assist with budgeting and financial planning.

Recruit, train, supervise and motivate employees involved in food service, takeaway operations and retail activities.

Ensure appropriate staffing levels during peak trading periods and coordinate employees to maintain efficient service.

Monitor the cleanliness, presentation and organisation of the kitchen, service counter, customer areas and retail premises.

Maintain appropriate procedures for equipment use, cleaning, maintenance and reporting operational issues.

Monitor business performance, identify opportunities for operational improvement and implement procedures to increase productivity.

Ensure compliance with relevant food safety laws, local regulatory requirements, licensing obligations where applicable, and employment and workplace safety requirements.

Maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers, employees and other business stakeholders.

Report operational performance, staffing matters, financial results and improvement recommendations to the business owner.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:

A relevant Diploma or higher qualification in Retail Management, Business Management, Business Administration or a related discipline.

At least one year of relevant retail management or supervisory experience.

Demonstrated ability to manage daily business operations, supervise staff and coordinate customer service activities.

Experience in stock control, purchasing, supplier coordination, sales monitoring and cost management.

Understanding of takeaway food service operations, food handling procedures and food safety requirements.

Strong leadership, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prepare staff rosters, manage competing priorities and maintain appropriate staffing levels.

Experience using point-of-sale systems, handling payments and maintaining accurate sales records.

Ability to monitor food and merchandise costs, reduce wastage and support business profitability.

Previous experience in a fish and chips takeaway, quick-service food business or combined food service and retail environment will be highly regarded.

Salary and Employment Benefits

Annual salary of AUD $80,000 plus superannuation.

Permanent full-time position, 38 hours per week.
