Reservist Interpreter Senior

Job description

Introductory text

Do you have a knack for languages and know how to convey information clearly? As a Reservist Interpreter at the Ministry of Defence, you will undertake interpreter assignments in the most challenging locations worldwide, as well as right here in the Netherlands. You must be willing and fit for deployment. You can be deployed for all Defence components to support our military personnel in communication, both nationally and internationally.

What you will do

As a Reservist Interpreter, you will support military colleagues in intercultural communication with foreign units, local authorities, and the local population. In addition to interpreter assignments during missions, operations, and exercises abroad, you will occasionally (co-)organize culture workshops and/or conversation classes for Dutch military personnel going on missions, translate military language maps, or support military training. The duration of the assignments varies from one day to several months.

We are looking for Reservist Interpreters for the following languages:
• Russian
• Ukrainian
• Arabic (Iraqi, Palestinian-Jordanian, and Syrian-Lebanese)
• Bosnian
• French

Only applicants who speak one or more of these languages will be invited for the follow-up process. If you speak a language that is not currently among the above languages, we recommend checking our other reservist vacancies. There are three vacancies for Reservist Interpreter: Junior, Medior, and Senior. Each level has specific language and education requirements.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS POSITION

  • Work atmosphere: you will never find such a close-knit team of colleagues as at Defence.
  • Work environment: interpreter assignments can take place in exceptional environments, in the field, abroad, and sometimes in a conflict zone.
  • Challenge: interpreter assignments are diverse in content and require great responsibility.

Where you will work

Most interpreter assignments take place during missions, operations, and exercises abroad. However, you can also be deployed in the Netherlands for, for example, visits from foreign delegations, exercises, and international military sports events. The country of your deployment and the nature of the interpreter assignment depend on your language specialization and the assignment from the organization.

Make sure you know what you are getting into and attend the Information Session for Reservist Interpreter. This information session is a mandatory part of the application procedure.
