Job description
Introductory text
Do you have a knack for languages and know how to convey information clearly? As a Reservist Interpreter at the Ministry of Defence, you will undertake interpreter assignments in the most challenging locations worldwide, as well as in the Netherlands. In any case, you must be willing and suitable for deployment. You can be deployed for all Defence branches to support our military personnel in communication, both nationally and internationally.
What you will do
As a Reservist Interpreter, you will support military colleagues in intercultural communication with foreign units, local authorities, and the local population. In addition to interpreter assignments during missions, operations, and exercises abroad, you will occasionally (co-)organize cultural workshops and/or conversation classes for Dutch military personnel embarking on missions, translate military language maps, or support military training. The duration of assignments varies from one day to several months.
We are looking for Reservist Interpreters for the following languages:
• Russian
• Ukrainian
Only applicants who speak one or more of these languages will be invited for the further selection process. If you speak a language that is not currently among the above-mentioned languages, we recommend you to check our other reservist vacancies. There are three vacancies for Reservist Interpreter, namely Junior, Medior, and Senior. Each level has specific language and education requirements.
PERKS OF THIS ROLE
- Work atmosphere: you won't find such a close-knit team of colleagues anywhere else as at Defence.
- Work environment: interpreter assignments can take place in extraordinary environments, in the field, abroad, and sometimes in a conflict zone.
- Challenge: interpreter assignments are diverse in content and demand great responsibility.
Where you will work
Most interpreter assignments take place during missions, operations, and exercises abroad. However, you can also be deployed in the Netherlands for, for example, visits from foreign delegations, exercises, and international military sports events. The country of your deployment and the nature of the interpreter assignment depend on your language specialization and the assignment from the organization.
Make sure you know what you're getting into and visit the Information Session for Reservist Interpreters. This information session is a mandatory part of the application procedure.
€4,050 ~ €4,450 salary Location: VARIOUS LOCATIONS NETHERLANDSAs a reservist, you are paid for your deployment based on a zero-hour contract. You receive an hourly wage that depends on your rank and is equal to that of a regular military member. Are you going on exercise or deployment? Then you receive an exercise or deployment allowance on top of your salary. Additionally, you receive a travel allowance. More info
